Default Wow...talk about a "blast from the past"

I found an old pic of my car from 2000 on a board I havn't been on in a while. I wasn't even on HT yet, and really had no concept of engine management or tuning. Thought it was really interesting. Looking back at it, I can't help asking myself.... "What the f*ck was I thinking?!?!?"

some highlights of the setup:

- Nasty *** yellow Krylon paint job.
- Home depot rubber couplers.
- completely stock fuel system/ECU (except the B&M FPR).
- Aquarium one way valves for the map sensor
- T-25 bolted to an HF manifold (no adapter plate!).
- Stock yet hacked cross member.
- Starion IC.

I didn't spend more than $400 bucks on the setup, and it actually lasted well over a year. The motor held up as well, and actually didn't blow until my HG blew on my next turbo setup. It couldn't have been much of a HP gain at all on 12psi untuned with no engine management, but that year was probably the most fun I'd ever had.

And now:

Anyone else have a similar story? I'm sure I'm not the only one.

This is pretty much the kind of build I am going to end up doing. Hey, it's a learning experience and I don't have much money (not to mention I don't care much for the car).

I was doing that too, yesterday.

My first turbo setup. Back when I was into the 'Yotas.

Then, my first turbo honda.

Now I'm restoring a CRX. It's kinda fun to see how tastes and ideas change over time.

Back in 2k I thought my carb'd Firebird was bad-***. Fortunately I was right, late 60's muscle cars fetch a premium now.

But I looove fuel injection. I figure I have another 2-4 years on hondas before I gain the bulk of my knowledge and move to bigger things. Back then I was intent on an LS swap, then ls-v, then I got the boost bug. I'm too much of a perfectionist to do one of those types of setups above (no offense), just tend to wade in the water before I jump in.

Heh I just got into Honda's this May and I already got the boost bug which is why I'll have the kit installed in spring, thank God my one friend is already into Honda's and can help give me insight on what to do to not destroy my car...plus I'll be taking it to a professional import tuner shop to have the kit installed and tuned. But yes when you think back on all the things you were into when you turned 16 or for some before that, it's really cool and amazing.

Two days ago, I was looking at this picture and wondering to myself "
Is this the same car that used to have a yellow ZC turbo?"

Question answered. You may think the yellow was hideous, but it sure is memorable.

All my old pics of when I started are long gone but to discribe it:
Ihi rhb5
d16z6
hf manifold with adapter plate
crush bent downpipe made at muffler shop
b&m fuel pressure regulator cranked static psi to 65 for when in boost lol
no intercooler
pvc charge pipes glued together
home depot couplers
volvo plastic bov
homedepot made oil and water lines out of brass fittings and brass hard line

I thought I was the king back then lol could stomp on stock 5.0's and keep up with bone stock normal vets lol I had about 400$ in my setup also, it lasted about 2 months then we melted a whole in piston number 4 hehe

The guys on homemadeturbo might have pics of this old ghettoness just ask stealthmode about it he was the first to dog it lol

here is my 1st swap/1st turbo setup. back in 2000. this was an ls with crowers and srp pistons/block guard/headstuds.. on stock injectors and FMU.(rev hard stg2 kit) the car ran 12.4@112 on drag radials.. and was a **** load of fun. i used to take this shitbox to the street races all the time. the car was constantly blowin the headgasket...i bet i went through like 10 of em. hahahaha... as soon as i would boost the coolant temp would shoot up. hahhaha

and here the same car is today..(the only reason its a racecar is because it was stolen and stripped... )

lol...I felt the same way with my measily setup. I felt that because my car was so light I could pretty much take anything. today that would be a different story.

I have some pics of my old DPFI cars from the late 90's I have to upload But my first turbo setup back in late 03/early 04. Stock B16, drag kit, stock clutch, stock injectors, FMU, inline pump. Ran 11.8's@115 with that setup. Ran the hell out of it on the stock motor, went to Hondata and sold the car which had a 60-1 put on it with more boost, and as far as I know the motor is still going strong.

You've always amazed me how you manage to get such a simple and conservative setup down the track in the times you do. It's funny comparing others with "500whp" setups that manage to pull off a low 12. Great stuff

most people who build 500whp setups pay someone to do it, know **** about their own setup, and cannot drive to save their life
