Default Issue with brake lights...

My issue is that recently the rear brake lights (all 3) always stay on. This is killing my battery after a while.

Can someone explain what might be causing this or give me any insight to what I may look for to remedy this. It is a newer problem that I am looking to hunt down. I have to disconnect my battery terminal when parked to not wear down my battery.

Thanks in advance for any insight offered.

I had the same problem last week.

Under the dash pull the fuse cover and follow the brake peddle up into the dash. You'll see a switch with a plug on it. that could be your problem. You can get a switch at the junkyard or at any autoparts store. Don't know the price.

Also look at where the switch hits the peddle and there should be something over the hole where it touches. this is the problem I had the thing that goes in that hole disappeared and the switch just goes throw it. I electrical taped a penney over the hole.

sorry for the bad descriptions but I hope this helps.

If they are always staying on, some part of the circuit is being grounded. As 90CRX said it could be a bad brake light switch..

I had this happen
There is a rubber bumper the brake light switch rests on.
Mine disintegrated leaving a hole that the nub of the switch went through

see if the rubber bumper is still there(you will have to do some yoga to get up under the dash far enough)
push on the brake pedal and you will see where I am talking about(get a flashlight)

^ That ^ is a good way to fix it. Just put something in/over that hole on the pedal that will push the little button (that turns the brake lights off) when you release the pedal. Look in the floorboard for little bits of blueish plastic... that is the old stopper that broke.

I have filled the hole with zipties
the penny I taped fell off

the rubber bumper will probably cost a buck so why bother
I will get the bumper for mine on the next trip to the yard (I bet it's the same piece on any Honda)

The penney was a temp fix. I was out of town and the plug disappeared (seriously never found it) I stoped at a gas station and some lady said my lights were still on and all I could do is fix it quick. I pulled the plug out of a crx in a junkyard as sone as my trip was over.

The plug is exactly what the problem is. Being that this plug is used in a wide variety of hondas, I am going to the dealership to pick a couple up tomorrow.

Thanks again guys!
