Default Baffled H22a sump - My first attempt...

Did this up for a guy the other week. Now i'm gonna do one for myself also. Loosely copied the Mugen style'd ones i found on the net. Just thought I'd share and see what others think.... The final painted one is actually a different one, because i felt the hole for the pickup was too far forward.

Looks real good, but I don't think you need to paint it considering it will have constant oil all over it. I would be worried of the paint coming off and clogging something. Just a thought.

Yeah, I thought about that after I painted it. Don't think the paint will come off - but yeah I know you can't see it. Still - no point in doing things half-arsed, might as well do it properly.
I used a press to press the edges down around the hole etc.

We had made something for the 5Gen oil pan (aluminum), which is a bit of a PITA due to the various ribs around the perimeter of the pan. Anyway, David tried it on the track and said the difference was minimal. I really hope you guys have better luck.

I just used cut aluminum sheet. I didn't try flaring the edges like that. I wonder if that would have any effect. The next idea to try would be trap doors.

Let us know how it works, I'm very curious to know!!

Oh, yeah sorry here's a better angle. It has another plate there which is designed to bully the oil into going back down under the baffle through the hole. Basically when it comes back from the other side - some of it will hit that plate and change direction, then go down the hole. If it wasn't there it would simply rush back and well.. eventually go back down the hole - but alittle help from this should be better.

Hahaha - now get it on that car and get to the track!! Gotta make sure it works before I put one on my engine

I'm curious why you didn't go the extra 1/4 mile and just weld an extension onto the pan. Assuming oil starvation is the enemy, an extra quart would help, even if its still sloshing around. Thats one thing I may do to a spare pan I have.

BTW what did you use to clean the oil sludge out of the pan? Last time I welded an oil return on one, nothing I tried really removed the crap left in there. Oil doesn't respond to arcs very well

First - I think will warp the sump and then I'd have to spend ages panel beating it flat again. But..... I may try it on another one later and see.
Second - I used something called Britolite. Marvelous stuff!!!
