Hey I just did a base line dyno run today before I start modding the hell out of my car and I was wondering what are average dyno numbers for a stock GS-R?
Hi,
here is a quote I found on a 98 GS-r
"Both the 1996 and the 1998 have ECUs equipped with OBDII emissions firmware, however the OBDII firmware was revised for the 1998 model year. Compared against a 1996 GS-R, the 1998's seem weaker on the dyno at a peak of 133hp, about 10-15 hp less, when bone-stock. To be fair, however, 6,000km on the odometer isn't a whole lot, and performance *might* improve a bit with a little more mileage. People seem to report that the 98s aren't any slower though.. "
When I dyno'd my car stock, it dyno'd about the same 136hp 104trq....I made the chipswap to a 96 GS-r ECU (which conversion kit) and I made instantly 144hp, 110trq....after a i/h/e setup I laid down a chillin (ya right) 165hp to the wheels and 129trq. this is good for mid-low 14's....but I crave more...time for JRSC or greddy turbo. perhaps?

oh and PS, for the 98's this is the most common 98+ ecu power loss fix right here.. (Aem CAI is what thier refering to btw)
""The Analysis: A very worthwhile mod. From 133 to 151 hp! No losses in HP or torque anywhere through the rev range. OK, so I'm sure all of you out there are ready to call up AEM to order an intake, but be aware that your results WILL vary depending upon the condition of your engine, and the number of mods/bolt-ons on it already. I've found that the greater the amount of bolt-ons, the tendency for each succeeding bolt-on to provide a smaller increase than the first one or two things you bought for your motor, unless your most recent bolt-on is something major, such as a turbo/forced induction, headwork, or NOS, but then again, most of those don't really qualify as a "bolt-on".. My 99 made 137/104 with 35k on the odometer. This was with a AEM CAI. Some people don't make 10-15 hp on the dyno with the CAI alone. Your results may very.

Well I put down 149.8 hp and 117.9 torque bone stock with 50k. I put the exhaust on now and did not get a chance yet to run the dyno again but it feels a little better.

I baselined 150hp, 114 lbs of torque. with a simple cam change, and no tuning, i went to 158.8 and 123.1. this was all on a '98 gs-r with nothing more than a drop in K&N and some Magnecore wires.
