Default buy b20 or sleeve b18c1

what are your opinions ? is it worth sleeving a b18c1 (buying darton sleeves/getting a local shop to put them in and buy pistons) . or just buy a b20 and buy pistons?
reason is for i want to go 2.0L w/ 11.5-12.1 c/r. AllMotor obviously.
searched but havent seen this question asked yet.

To be safe you would have to sleeve the b20. So no matter what block you go with you should sleeve it anyways. Some people say sleeving a b20 is a bad idea, but I have had no problems with mine and it runs like a champ.

okay , the thing is i have a gsr in my crx right now , but like i said want to go 2.0L , and i cant decide what would be reliable ... and if its going to cost me the same to buy the b20 and pistons , or to just sleeve my gsr and buy pistons.

Stay with the GSR...or a bare LS block is pretty cheap. You can build that then you wont have any "down time".

*2 liter GSR rocks though

I am a firm proponent of sleeved GSR blocks. They are durable and make excellent power.

Why do some people say sleeving a B20 is a bad idea?

some places wont even sleeve a b20

something about it's monosleeve design and less material surrounding the sleeves. or something along those lines.

Thanks for all the reply's ... am leaning more towards the gsr sleeved as well but im just trying to justify if its worth it since its going to be all motor. the cost of sleeve's the cost of sleeving it plus the cost of pistons ....or just the cost of the b20 and cost of pistons. not too worried about downtime since i'll probably (HOPEFULLY) be getting a 91 civic wagon as my daily. the block will be mated to a CNC'd GSR head with RM m22xx's .

camp1320 has some killer deals on golden eagle sleeving. in the end you get a stronger block than a stock b20 and you can go with a bigger bore.

I would sleeve the gsr, my b20 seems to work fine but its a drag car and i know that it would be better to sleeve but i'm to cheap, when it breaks then i will sleeve it. Still waiting................The gsr block is for sure stronger.

well, came across some good b20b's at a reasonable price , that and i came
across a daily driver i can afford so i think im going b20b unfortunatly ..
i wanted the gsr sleeved but thats at least $1500 w/pistons. the b20 will have to do for now i guess.

what kind of prices are you guys finding on b20's?
they are not $400 as most people are saying...im finding prices from 600 to 800. alot of people /shops wont part out the block and head because the head is as worthless to them as it is to me.

I'd do it right the first time.
B20 block that do get sleeved. you might get a 50/50 chance of it holding up. I've seen my fair share of b20's that have leaked.

Go with the b18 sleeved it's a stronger motor.

I personally like the charecteristics of the 87 crank over the 89, but Rocket Motorsports has seen 250 whp, 15+ compression on stock B20 sleeves. It can be done.

B20 sleeves will sink if they are not properly installed. This is due to the monosleeve design that doood was talking about. Golden eagle will still sleeve b20s and they gurantee them as long as you dont overbore the motor. I have Darton 84mm MID sleeves in my b20 and they work great. They have not sunk (and wont now that the motor has been brought to full operating temp. To the OP if you plan on going 12:1 compression on a B20 motor you should sleeve it or at the very least get a blockguard. Good luck with the build and keep us updated. PM if you have any questions about the build I have built a few B20's so I might be able to help.
