Default strange b18c5 problem

Well It started when i was doing my routine maintenance on the motor, i changed the spark plugs, oil ect. even did a comp test for fun were i got 210 across the board. then i removed the valve cover for a friend to look at my cams and what not when i noticed on the number one valves one of my titanium retainers looks to have broke in the middle and slid down in to the spring sumhow, the motor showed no signs of this before hand and after a while i got the ***** to start it back up and it starts/drives as if nothing is wrong. but i am very nervous about this but at the same time amazed the motor runs with no problems. id like input or suggestions on what to do or not to do.
Btw it is a 98 b18c5 with 88k
jun type 2 cams with jun ti valve springs and retainers/cam gears
port and polish. rc 440's ect ect

I wouldnt start/drive it if that indeed is the problem! Either you fix it or take it to someone who can.

And post a pic.

the car was most likely over reved, titanium retainers wear out eventually..

you need a better picture, man. if you do indeed have a problem with a retainer, it needs to be fixed immediately, and DONT START THE ENGINE. now, you're not just lookin at the little space between the 2 valve locks, are you??

Well when it was tuned, the fuel cutoff was set at 9,600 and still making power.
so i guess that is your over reving.
How long will it stay like this? i dont relly have the time to take the car in right now.
But when i do, i think i am going to repace the hole set not just that one.

Well the only thing stock on the motor is the block, pistons. but i treat this car like my kid as i bet most of you do. so the car is babied and has only seen past 9k a handfull of times. but that is not the issue at hand -

Rent an econobox car for a few days and have a qualified tech(or at least a buddy who has done a cam swap before) take a look at the car...may cost you a lot less in the long run.

If you end up trashing a retainer...it can cause some real havoc in the top-end (and worst case drop a valve)...it would ruin your day real quick-

Cheers!

You are posting the thumbnail picture, we need the original sized picture if you want any of us to have a decent view of your problem.

Did you eat paint chips as a kid?

your picture is still not working

DO NOT DRIVE OR START THE CAR until you replace all the retainers and possibly the keepers as well.

You may also have some bent valves...yes they may have somewhat straightned themselves out, but they will eventually fail and then you will be in a world of hurt.
