My friends car blew a head gasket and the shop that looked at it said the head was warped and needs to be milled. When I went to pick up the car I ask them about the block and they said that all they did was a block test and determined that the head was warped without taking the head off the block. Dont you need to take the head off the block to determine if it is warped? I know that with overheating and a blown gasket that the head most likely will warp.

How much would a machine shop charge to have the head and/or block milled? What should I look for, when I take the head off, to see if there is any other damage to the block? like cracks in block or cyclinder walls...?

Also oil mixed with coolant any tips on flushing the radiator and the block?

My intentions are to hopefully swap heads give it a tune up, water pump, timing belt, plugs, wire,... and sell it.

If you are going to remove the head take it a shop and have it checked. When I did the HG on my honda I knew the owner of the local honda shop and they checked it for free. If the head needs machine work it should be under 100. A little tip if you have the work done. rotate the cam shaft until all valves are equal to almost being closed. Then back off all the rockers until all valves are closed. This way you will not have to take the head comp apart to have it machined. Just make sure to give it a good cleaning once you get it back
