Gates "Sport" timing belt?
Has anyone seen or used these Gates "Sport" timing belts? They are blue in color and supposed to be equivalent to Toda or PE belt--the only thing is they have them available for d16 (gat-t145rb) which is interesting. Also, they are alot more reasonable than the Japanese race belts--I think the Gates are around $85. I want to look into this next time I have to replace my belt--any experience? I know alot of people are going to say stock is the best--but for people with stiff springs and big cams, is stock really better than one of these supposedly stronger aftermarket belts?
thank you. I just think its neat because none of the other companies (Toda, Greddy, PE) make a d-series application--and Gates does--on the site is says the typical stuff--"300% stronger, stretch resistant" etc.--I know Gates is an OE supplier so its probably equally as good as the OEM belt.

Oh--of course they make b-series too. I was just mentioning the d, because none of the other "sport" belts make a d-application.
i seriously wouldn't spen 200 on a aftermarket timing belt..i rather use a brand new OEM belt..i brother inlaw has a greddy timing belt and just after 1000 miles that belt looked like SH*T with color all faded and junk

That is part of the allure--these aren't $200--they are around $85--more than OEM--but perhaps better than oem for people with big cams & heavy springs. Well, a light color belt will start to get dirty and look ugly after a bit--the only reason you can't tell on the oem belt is because its black--guarantee it would look just as dirty.
if im thinking of the right gates brand u are talking about...i know they make accessory belts and timing belts as well for alot of different cars....and from what i understand, gates makes alot of the belts for the dealers as well

I'd rather spend some extra $ on a belt than have my Toda C's eat up a OEM belt and then have to rebuild the motor, with ported head and all.

robear racing lists them. GSR part number is: GAT-t247rb and its $106, b16/b17 part number is: GAT-227rb and its $99--still pretty cheap--its only the d16a6 belt that is $84.
