Default My Side Project: 1993 Civic Sedan (EG8)

Project "Beater to Heater" EG8 Civic Sedan

My cousin bought this Civic, it was bone stock at the time. He did some stuff to it and eventually tried to do a 'mini-me' on the motor. Well, that didnt work out so well. So after he gave up on the car, I took it upon myself to buy it from him and give it the TLC it so desparately needed. Poor Civic...it never hurt nobody.

As you can see, it needs work. Overall, the body it straight but the 4 coats of paint aint happening (originally it was red, then rattlecanned gold, then rattlecanned black, then rattlecanned primer...that's alot of rattle cans ).

This is what it looked like when I picked it up, with the hood propped up, broken B pillar door trim, and a cool stuffed animal hanging from the rear tow hook.

I forget to blur the plates, oh well.

The stock sideskirts were busted up, so I picked up these EK side skirts. Looks much better!

Since the motor was blown, the first thing I did was pull out the ol' single slammer and throw in my LS motor since it was sitting around doing nothing.

Out with the old

In with the new. I cleaned up the engine bay, did a mini wire tuck, and added a strut tower bar and Megan 4-1 header.

I replaced the side mirrors since the old one's were missing the outer trim. I also replaced all four b pillar door trim. While I was at it, I removed the 'hood prop' and correctly installed the bumper/headlights/and corners using the correct hardware. It fits much nicer now. Before, it had shoestring holding up the bumper

Next is the interior, it's gonna take me awhile to clean this mess up. Just so you guys know, this is not the way to do a roll bar. This set up is nothing more that poles from Home Depot welded to the car. This **** has to go, asap.

I added a EX cluster, got rid of the stupid DX unit.

And, that's it for now. At this stage, I'm just trying to replace any broken or missing parts. The dash trim was broken and alot of the interior was hacksawed to make way for the roll bar. I spent most of my time locating clean replacement panels and parts.

Next is removing the makeshift roll bar and restoring the interior. This is gonna be fun

1/3/07 Updates!

Well, I finally was able to get cracking on the car again. Having 3 day weekends due to the holidays gave me the time to make some heavy progress. Here's what I was able to do....

There was two things I dispised about the car, one of those things were the green wheels. I painted them a nice shade of gunmetal and it made a world of difference.

Swapped out the front brakes for some GSR's. Since I had these laying around, I figured, why not? Since I was using 14" HX wheels, 1/4" spacers were neccessary.

My brakes; nice and snug behind the 14 inchers.

Added practically new KYB shocks & Tein S-Techs all around. Also added Megan Racing rear LCA's and a homemade lower tie bar.

Put the interior back to stock and since I was at it, I threw in a JDM EG steering wheel, ITR shift boot, C's short shifter, Skunk 2 shift ****, and Circuit Hero shifter extender.

Another angle

The second thing I dispised about the car, aside from the wheels, was the 'roll bar'. I took that **** out and reinstalled all stock panels. Huge difference.

I came up on a PasswordJDM intake. I didnt want it, so I threw it in the Civic instead.

Lastly, threw in amber city lights. No reason, just cause.

And this is how she sits with the new Tein's and repainted wheels. I'd say I'm about 75% there. Just needs some body work, a windshield, and paint!

Awesome job, thus far. Keep up the good work, and give that car the life it deserves.

Haha, yup that sounds like my cousin alright. He tried to sell the car a few times but it never happend. After the motor got fucked, he walked away from it completely. Never really took the time to do it right.

But yeah, those bars are way unsafe.

Haha, thanks. I think.

That's actually an LX cluster.

Good work on the de-ricing/de-hacking job thus far - you're on your way to rescuing that poor car. Very few people would ever touch that thing, but rather just send it to the junkyard. Those bars almost made me choke. The improvement in body panel fitment is incredible, and the engine bay is super clean. The car will look great with a uniform coat of glossy paint.

I'd suggest putting both bronze wheels on one side and both green wheels on the other. Staggered wheel colors looks corny.

Thanks guys. The car was originally red, so I'm gonna go with that. I actually thought about painting a difference color, but if I was gonna do a complete color change I should have left the motor out. Too late now, so red it is.
