I'm building my LS block with OEM Type R pistons (oversized) and I'm contemplating on what rods to use. My friends suggested just to get em shot peened because I'm not reving past 9k anyway. I'm spending a lot of money on my new motor and with the GSR head, all internals are being replaced with brand new Type R stuff. i.e. valvesprings, retainers, guides, motion assembly, ctr cams. I hate to spend all this much and just brake down from weak con-rods...Any suggestions comrads?
If you are spending all that money why not just get some aftermarket rods.
Eagle
Crower
Pauter
Just to name a few. Eagle are inexpensive and are a very reputable rod.

Eagle it is bro...Thanks a lot. I just needed some assurance from someone other than my friends. I think summit or import builders sells em cheap. Anybody knows where I can get em for a bargain?
I am pretty sure importparts.com has them and they give a 10% discount to all ht members.

What year is your motor?I'm looking at an article in the Honda Tuning magazine, and this is what it says.
A set of 90-97 Integra B18A non-vtec rods can handle up to 300hp at the drive wheels and cost less than half of what after market sets go for.

stock LS rods are supposed to be good rods but use ARP bolts if you stick with them. the bolts are the weakest link on the OEM LS rods.
i myself went with Eagles though...

shot peening will be about $100 for the rods so for a little bit more ($200 more actually) you can have eagle rods and have no worries in that department. the stock ls rods will do fine for the job. wouldnt hurt to et a set of arp rod bolts as well.
im going the same setup as well, ls rods with .25mm over itr pistons. the only mod you have to do to the ls rods to fit the pistons is take a 1mm off each side of the rod. (.040")

I hope that's true, because 90-93 is B18A and 94 up is B18B...I actually have both. The B18b that I'm running stock right now and the B18A's in the machine shop being built. From what I've heard from friends, the older B series engines are stronger in material and overall can get even better with age. Is this true, (not going away from my initial question?)
Hey EF_lsvtec...remember that you need to get rods that use a pressed piston like OEM honda pistons if that is the piston you will use..if not most eagles use cerclips and are not pressed so your oem pistons will not work... I ran into the same prob bc i had no idea eagles are non pressed. so long story short i ended up getting endyn pistons
so anyone that is looking for brand new itr pistons let me know

Thanks for the tip. After reading all replies, I'm leaning towards just getting em shotpeened. I never really heard of an LS rod giving way after it was strengthened. But then again, I still might change my mind...Thanks again though.
* How much were the rods you ended up with?
