Alright so....best gears for the AP2?
After some searching, it looks like 4.77's take a lot of heat because of the reduced top end, and the noise. My question is, how bad is the noise and what does it sound like? Also is the reduced top end that bad? I hardly touch 130mph, but I do cruise at 80-90mph almost daily. What about the 4.57's? Also, reinforced diff, worth it?
the noise is more on the 4.57 and its a semi-high pitched whine. the 4.44 are your best bet and they are usually less expensive. and finally a reinforced diff is always worth it on the S IMO.
if your cruising at such a high speed very often, why not stick with your stock gears? 4.77's and 4.57's will make your low end better by sacraficing your top end. and judging by your post, you seem to do alot of top end driving.

It's a tough call. Definitely atleast 20-30 minutes in the morning and at night on the highway to and from work. Aside from that it's stoplight driving. I'm just trying to find the best bang for my buck engine mod for around $1k.

4.77's dont make noise, the 4.57's do. 4.77's are OEM parts, 4.57's are manufactured by another company. i'm not entirely sure if the new batch of 4.57's make noise either, i think they tried to correct the problem but i doubt its gone.
you just said yourself you want the best bang for your buck.. that would be the 4.77's
if you plan on going forced induction i probably wouldnt get them with an AP2.. but if you're staying all motor mods then definately get them, you WONT regret it.
rpms only go up about 600rpm in each gear.. if anything, the higher rpms will want to keep you from speeding cause your cruising rpms will be the speed limit now
4.44 is a 8.2% increase, 4.57 is a 11.4%, and 4.77's 16.3%. Fuel efficiency wont go down unless you use the gas a lot more, otherwise it should stay the same as you will lose mpg on freeway but make up mpg in city driving. throttle load is the most important aspect of mpg. increased RPMs puts more wear on your engine.
This is your AP2 on 4.10's (245/40/17 tire):
Maximum speed in first gear: 36.9 mph
Maximum speed in second gear: 56.5 mph
Maximum speed in third gear: 78 mph
Maximum speed in fourth gear: 99.5 mph
Maximum speed in fifth gear: 122.5 mph
Maximum speed in sixth gear: 151 mph
This is your AP2 on 4.57's (245/40/17 tire):
Maximum speed in first gear: 33.1 mph
Maximum speed in second gear: 50.7 mph
Maximum speed in third gear: 70 mph
Maximum speed in fourth gear: 89.2 mph
Maximum speed in fifth gear: 109.9 mph
Maximum speed in sixth gear: 135.4 mph
This is your AP2 on 4.77's (245/40/17 tire):
Maximum speed in first gear: 31.7 mph
Maximum speed in second gear: 48.5 mph
Maximum speed in third gear: 67 mph
Maximum speed in fourth gear: 85.5 mph
Maximum speed in fifth gear: 105.3 mph
Maximum speed in sixth gear: 129.8 mph

if you're gonna do it, do it once and do it right, thats what i've learned about modding cars.. if you go 4.57's will you wonder... damn i wonder what 4.77's would have felt like? ask yourself that question and come up with your own answer
look at the numbers i posted and you can see how much speed you will lose and if you're fine with that i'd pull the trigger. you can see between 4.57s and 4.77's there isnt much of a difference in speed lost.. i do mostly city driving so i wanted the most pep i could get.
i have an AP1 and i went with 4.77's.. and i have a comptech sc.

best bang for the buck in the $1000 range IMO. althought it might be slighty more

I think the west coast guys racing with AP2 engines are running 4.3's to still be able to hit 140+ mph at 8300rpm.....
any less than 140mph top speed won't work on any long track....
edit - not sure if you track your car or not, so that may be a moot point....
