Default the un-tintable strip on the back window

I couldn't get my full back window tinted because of those dots that it has all across the top. The tinting film doesn't stick to that.. The place I got my tint says if I pay $30 they'll paint it with some sort of special paint to fill that in from the inside.

Could I do this myself and with what kind of paint?
what do you all do?

Thanks,

I had mine tinted at the dealer and it was no problem. Also my EVO had that on the front and they still did the tint strip over it with no problems.

I had the tint shop around me put a black strip across the rear top peice. They said it is un-tintable, but for $15-20 bux they slap a black strip that makes it look amazing (aka just like it was tinted). Deff worth it. My advice - skip the hassle with special paint.

Ditto. The tint place that did my windows used a strip a Black film on the dots. Worked out great.

I heard that if applied properly the paint looks good. But, I personally wouldn't want to do it myself.

I ran into the same problem when I first got my back tinted. The first time it came out pretty bad, so I took it back and they basically said I could remove that part or just live with it. I ended up cutting the tint on the matrix dots and needless to say it looked funny with that clear strip in your window and not to mention the sun coming in. Eventually, I took it back to the shop and had them strip off the tint and retint it. I've taken all my cars in the past to these guys so they're good with me. The tinter took 5 tries until he finally got it to my liking. Even now, it's not perfect but it's as good as it gets IMO.

I also heard good stuffs about the vinly strips. Some guys even scrap off the dots, but I heard that can lead to problems such as rust. Good luck with what you decide on.

BTW, I got 5s on mines so every little imperfection can be seen easily. If you're not running yours soo dark you might be able to get away with some 'flaws'. But, I tell you those pesky little matrix dots are a PITA!

I was pissed when they didn't tell me about that until AFTER I came back to pick up my car. I would have just had them tint over them and then if there was a problem have them cut it back. The place near me just uses black krylon spraypaint I believe. What a joke...

PS -- JUSTIN IS THAT YOU?! You probably went to the same dang shop I did!

We send em out all the time for tint and we tell customers that sometimes they dont look too good after its done, personally mine was pretty decent looking, only like 1 spot it didnt stick

From what I have experienced, Dealer tinting is usually better than independent shops.

I had my back window completely tinted no problems. And it was "dealership" tinted by the guy that does the local Honda dealership's cars.

we charge customers in the area of like 170 for a civic/accord i think... we pay like 120 to the tint shop, i dont know why people dont shop around before gettin it done...maybe cuz its done by the dealership they have a better warranty?

I got all my windows done (both door windows, blindspot/backseat windows, and rear window) at 15% plus the black vinyl strip in the back for $160. It came with a life-time warranty (already had it back for an imperfection), and they said they use some new tint technology film. Basically compared to regular tint - you CAN use windex w/ ammonia on these w/ no problems. I dunno - dealer wanted to charge me 200 for the same work.

I think it just depends on who you have do the tinting. My moms accord and my Civic both have the whole window including the matrix tinted. Two different shops. Mine is perfect. The matrix looks slightly different than the rest of the window but there is no way of getting around that since it looks different than the rest of the window without a tint. It is the best I have seen. My moms looks like crap. so just ask around about the best reccomended local tinting shop. When someone reccomends you to a shop they used look at their matrix and decide if it is up to your standards. I only paid $130 and it is perfect my parents paid $170 so I guess you don't exactly pay for what you get when it comes to this type of thing. Good luck

the back stripe is called FRIT which is a amount of dot matrix lines but in a huge amount hence the "frit" now the spray or the vinly try are the most tipycal HOWEVER what i recommend? simple put your tumb or a hard card with a microfiber over it and gently but firmly pull from down to up the dots in the frit will stick more making it look less clear white to a nice unnoticable white line. if you do it again and again the tint eventually will stick and will defo go all the way to the glass and the tint finish will be sick.... ill take pics of my car and how i finished it on the rear ....

My tint place couldn't cover the dots either. I'm debating the strip

Here's what it looks like now

yeah i don't like the look of that....

does anyone know what kind of paint they use? I hear it'd look the most even to have it painted.

my tinting place charges $30...but I want to save that $ and do it myself. Just get some masking tape...and paint? :x

What kind of paint!?

well you can work with the frit a bit it will look better , put your thumb from downward to upward towards the hood or put hard card over microfiber cloth, alto i just used my thumb and it was good enough

Are you talking about trying to get the air bubbles out?

yeah i think i might use the krylon paint. I really don't like having that untinted strip there... i don't think using that krylon spraypaint will be that hard to do..... masking tape, etc... hmm

or just spend the $30 to have the shop do it.

The dots can be tinted. I am getting mine done next week.. my shop use clear glue to fill in the holes of the dots. Then it can be tinted..
