B16 intake manifold set up...a little different from the norm...
Some of you have seen the pics and videos that I have posted of the "b16 build" that we did on a white CRX a few months back. Until earlier this week, we had been running TWM ITBs on the car and the car ran great. the power was right at 240, and the car had run a best time of 11.56 @ 118mph.
Well, in a quest to run our own fabricated parts on the car, and get back into an intake manifold instead of ITBs, Huy decided to fabricate his own intake manifold. At first glance, it is a funny looking intake manifold, but after dyno'ing the car with the new mani, the results are pretty impressive. We weren't really expecting to see much gain on the dyno really, just trying to get close to the ITBs power. We expect that the new manifold/intake design would yield good results on the track due to air being stuffed into the intake. We were very happy with the dyno results and look forward to hitting the track this weekend.
Take a look. I'm sure some will hate it, and others will appreciate the fab. Feedback welcome....

Why the decision to put the throttle body a mile away from the intake valves? Talk about delayed throttle response versus ITB's. Nice work though otherwise IMO.
Actually, the throtle response is great and the car revs very fast. We put it away from the plenum in order to get a more laminar air flow into the plenum/runners. So far it is good stuff...the real test will be on the track.

ive seen this done a few although never that far away, its suppose to help to an extent. meaning there is a happy medien between to far and really close, throttle body diemeter is also a factor in throttle response.

Since I am not the fabricator, I am going to let Huy answer your questions.
I know huy takes pride in fabricating his own parts and running them on his/customers cars. On this car he made the cross member/traction bars, header, intake manifold, motor mounts radiator support and some other random stuff. Its easy to buy parts and bolt them on, but it is much more of a challenge to make your own parts, build your own stuff and be fast too. We are hoping to see some low 11s this weekend! Again, thanks for the props.

Where was vtec engaged at? I'm hoping thats what the cause of the blip in the HP curve was.
It also seems weird to me how the torque is falling off so much after 7k...? Is that normal for built N/A motors? I'd expect a B16 to keep climbing...? Just curious is all.
The end results don't lie though...Great stuff!

well when you guys are ready to make another let me know.. ill be more than happy to buy it and let you guys know how it does....maybe i can try it on my race car..
That a great idea and it seems to have worked so far on a dyno, I would have never thought of that throttle body location.
My only suggestion would to have rolled a large single piece of metal for the main body or done a better fit up to smooth the edges on the inside to improve flow but maybe you did? and that was a test fit pic?
