i have an integra ls tranny sitting around.
i just finished building an ls/vtec setup that should be around 200whp...how much would i hate having a non-vtec trans (shitty gearing)?
what would be the disadvantages?

well not necessarily soon, more likely when i have money...aka when the ls blows up unfortunately....
i wound up spending more on putting together the motor than i wanted to

I have a b20vtec motor with a cable ls s1 motor. it's not too bad. However, the cable S1 LS motor has a 4.4 final drive which is much shorter than hydro cable transmissions.
it sucks trust me
Aim for another trans, depending what you want out of the car would warrent what path to take.

I agree, you'll be asking yourself why your 200hp ls/vtec is so slow.

Then it sits for a year and instead of buying a tranny you buy a ls1 and stop playing hondas

can you swap the 4.4 final or say a type r final drive into it to help any? i really have no money to shell out as im seeing these crazy prices on gsr/b16 trannies.
you dont run in the 9's with 200 hp
you could prolly pick up a b16 tranny and then sell the LS for the price of a FD
but like they used to say in the turbo forums regarding "being in boost" youd be in vtak longer so you must be going faster

i have a ls tranny in my ls/vtec ek and it SUCKS ***!!!!! i am just barely getting out of 3rd gear by the end of the 1/4mile! and that's with 195/50-15s (22.75"-ish height), but my car feels much quicker with my smaller 13's (21.8"-ish height). i am just running a basic ls/vtec though (s2manifold/i/h/e).

well this wouldnt be a 1/4 mile car until i can get something with an lsd...until then we do highway races of about a mile which i believe the ls would win in correct?
then again...where is a gsr gear wise at the end of the 1/4?
and what are you trapping vs. what does a gsr trap?

If your going for top speed ( think this tranny will support 155mph+) or mpg
. this is the tranny for you. However, back in the real world we need acceleration. Acceleration=Torque+Gearing+Weight. Honda's = lightweight. Hondas don't=Torque, so we must gear to be at 8000 rpm at 115-120. F*ck it, it works.
If you NEED to drive the car now, use the LS tranny. Otherwise hunt for that b16 deal, its out there waiting for you. That LS is little better than a paperweight, as far as a tuner is concerned anyways
