I have a friend with a '01 EX, and her driver seat rocks back and forth - it's sitting and locked in the rails fine, but it slightly rocks (can feel it when shifting). Has anyone had this problem - does anyone know how to fix the problem. She does not want to replace the seat, just fix it.
Thanks.

It is a common problem. So common, Honda issued a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) for it. Take it to the dealership, and they will be able to fix the vehicle under the TSB.

when she took it to the dealership, they wanted nearly $200.00 to fix it.
Got any info on the TSB - or how to fix it yourself???

Tell them they are out of their minds... it is a factory service bulletin... they are required to fix the issue.

Well, the car is no longer under warranty - regardless, I just called the dealership and told them the situation - I also told them that I'm a very handy person and am willing to fix it myself, I just need to know what needs to be done - he said he'd get me the parts (no charge) and the TSB with step by step instructions on how to fix it. Seems fair enough at this point. I'll see if I can't get the info up when we get the stuff from Honda - maybe go in the FAQ section???
It would be AWESOME to get this in the FAQ, since it is a common problem...
My dealership told me that the "seat bushings" were worn out... but I never knew seats had bushings. So I don't know if he was shoveling BS in my face, or that was the actual problem...

The service manager told me that it was some spacers and bushings - if you look under the seat, there's a whole lotta **** going on with the rails and supports - i'm sure there are some nylon bushings and whatnot in there somewhere. But like I said, when I get the info, I'll post it up - who are the mods on this forum anywho?

TSB and Recall are 2 different things -
Recall is a manditory fix - notifications are sent to the vehicle owners, and if the customer decides to have it fixed, the dealership must do it (certain restrictions apply).
TSB is a way that dealerships trace issues with cars they have serviced. Easy reference to fix previously fixed issues. Generally (based on cost and dealership policy), if the car is under warranty and it is a fairly common issue, or safety related, and you have proof of a regular mantanace history, the dealership may decide to eat the cost and repair it for free - if your a ***** to the dealership/service department, or they feel that the issue is to do neglect, or the service mgr. just has a hair across their ***, they could say, "No ****** way we are fixing your car for free - if you want us to fix that cigarette lighter, it's gonna cost you your first born child, and you must name your second born child after my grandfather" - or something along those lines.

yup its most likely the seat bushings, its not BS. ive had to perform that TSB a dozen times pretty simple and straight forward. just pay attention to how u take the rail apart and only do it one side at a time.

Like all of the other parts guys, customers don't listen to you because you're not a tech... And I'd watch my mouth if I were you.. The other dude is right, service bulletins and recalls are two different things.. Funny thing is I also have my own parts guys that try and tell me how to fix things..
The seat bushing issue is common, but it doesn't affect everyone.. I find it mainly due to the driver. Most of the car that I've had to perform that service on had big husky people driving it..
As to whether or not the dealership should do it for free... Well look at it this way.. If some customer out of the blue walks in and tells me that I have to replace their seat bushings for free because I picked somewhere that it was some stupid recall of sort, I'd tell the customer it'll be 2hrs labor plus parts, take it or leave it.. Loyal customers will have the service done free of charge..
If you want to save money, just go buy the damn kit and do it yourself.. It only takes a pro 1/2 an hour to do it.. So it should take you at least an hour if you're not familiar with the car..

Strange... the only previous owner of my car was a tiny old lady and i'm only normal build (6ft2 ish, 12.5 stone). Wierd.

My car goes in this Friday for an oil change, and a requested transmission inspection (that sticky 2nd and Reverse is getting to me), and I'll have my seats looked at as well. If I can, I'll stay with the maintenance guy and see what he says about the seats, and what's ACTUALLY replaced/repaired.

Good to know, but I'd like to witness the actual process of repair, so I can try and explain how they're fixed.

Yeah I'm only 130lbs and my seat rocks slightly. Maybe the stiff ride has slowly loosened up the bolts.
for the future scans
