Default i want to build a d series track car

yes you read it right, we recently opened up a performance shop in my area, we mainly focus on domestics but recently a lot of attention from civic owners. my brother in law donated an 88 civic dx hatch, i figured why not strip it, boost it and drag it. how cool would a sohc drag car be, LOL.

some spare parts i have laying around are d16a6 head, eagle forged rods, and vitara pistons. my parts supplier has also decided on joining me and will be providing suspension and a turbo kit below cost, the turbo kit company is called "drag", not to familiar with them myself. i can also get megan products and blox products at cost thru my supplier so i figured why not.

so with your help on some things guys i will be drag racing a sohc 88 hatch, LOL

so emmisions not being a factor what is the cam of choice to use that will provide me with the most power?

the car is a 5 speed, how much abuse can the honda autos handle? comming from a domestic background auto is the trans of choice to use when drag racing at the track.

car will be stripped down to its bare essentials, i googled for fibreglass doors and front ends and couldnt find anything. i know ive seen a crx fibreglass front, do they still make em? i also remembering seeing fiberglass doors at one point. im sure they make lexan glass too for it. any wieght reduction advice?

can i use methanol injection over a fmic at the track? theoretically it makes sense, i know meth injection works, we have used it on a supercharged c5, but im thinking weight reduction with no fmic, LOL.

may also shoot direct port nitrous for fun and see what the vitara pistons can take, LOL.

EDIT: after looking at drag's site im thinking i can put together my own kit using a better manifold and turbo setup, what do you think?

You own a performance shop and don't know the answers to any of these?

well if you read it all we focus mainly on domestics.

and we also dont focus on honda drag cars. personally ive never been a drag fan, mostly street applications. ask me anything about lt1s and ls1s and ill tell you anything youll ever need to know.

honestly id rather do a ls1 swap LOL but budget is an issue with this one.

Yeah, but you should have a general automotive knowledge.

Questions like: "can i use methanol injection over a fmic at the track? theoretically it makes sense, i know meth injection works, we have used it on a supercharged c5, but im thinking weight reduction with no fmic, LOL. " don't really evoke much confidence that you know what you are doing.

weve used it on more then a few boosted v8s, not sure how well the hondas like em. to me it makes sense to use the meth over a fmic.

You may want to use the red button in the upper right hand corner also...

You're not familiar with boosted Honda's?

Use the damn search button. Type in "Turbo" and see what comes up. Start reading...

+1

You should know yourself owning a shop how you really need to know all the details of whats wanted to make sure you can devlier the right setup.

Hondas autos arn't strong, level10 can help you with that though, if you make a highstall honda I will love you forever.

You'd have to re-do the gearing as well. auto gearing sucks.

ls1's rock! what mods you got?

yeah i know most things, but i am totally lost when it comes to honda cam selection, never looked into it. like with lt1s you know how the hot cam preforms or the cc305 cc305 the comp cam xe grinds perform, power range and applications, when it comes to honda, i have no clue. when i was gathering parts for my honda build i got a jrsc at that time people stated that there isnt a supercharger cam and i should stick with stock, so i never looked into it.

ultimately the auto woudl be the way to go at the track, nothing like leaving the line at full boost, but if its weak maybe i should stick with the manual.

Just starting but it's I/E, LT headers are awaiting install.

if you have any supercharger questions, pm streetwerkz or pop in the FI fourm for a sohc supercharger thread

Not many of the racers use auto due to cost to make a honda auto good, i have a intrest in it but well my honda is a road race toy so it'll stay 5spd.

I just want to see a stalled honda

the honda auto's are no good, they wont take the added hp for long. in honda land all the high powered cars use manual trannys. its the achilles heal of the high hp honda. if you want really big power, like over 400hp i would ditch the d-series and go with a b-series.

my advice is this, get a 5spd trans/lsd/beefy clutch, build the d-series motor, go with the meth if you want to run pump gas, but use an intercooler. use aluminum charge pipes for weight, completely gut the car but leave the outside appearance stock. that way you can still run at the mission street legals on fri, and use it to advertise your business.

the drag kits are ok, but not that great, custom is best, but a pita in the ef chassis because of space issues. make sure you spend the $$ on good engine management as well

edit: if you use the d16a6 si motor for your build as well, delta offers cams for these.
