would it prevent the car from starting?

 

I had that code before and my car started fine but past 4000rpm the engine light would come on giving code 9. I replaced the distributor and solved that problem, so as far as starting the car no it wouldn`t cause it not to start.

 

well my homies car doesnt start and its throwing a code 9..

 

i had this code, car work perfect except there is no vtec.

 

Try another distributor, see what happens.
