Default How can i improve my welding?

Well I've been practicing with some welding and was wondering what you guys thought i should do to improve it. I'm running a mig millermatic 175 with gas and was trying to see if you guys had any tips for me to make it look a little better/cleaner. I welded this and got a lil line, would it be possible to flatten it out and make it look a little bit like a tig?

Better pics are necessary.

There are a couple techniques you can use to get a stack-of-dimes effect with a GMAW machine, but I'd suggest you master moving consistently before you try.

Are you pushing or pulling?
I found if you push it gives a wider and flatter weld, heaps better looking!
Although just make sure you dont let your weldpool roll ahead of your electrode as it will give you lack of fusion.

Keep your gun at a 5 to 15 degree angle... make sure to keep your gun consistently close, and consistent speed... Inconsistency not only comes from inconsistant speed, but also from moving your gun closer and farther away...

Practice makes perfect.

I was having the same problem, I was trying to do some T-joint and Lap joints in my welding class on the MIG with some 3/32" plate and I just couldn't do it, I was "pulling" tried it about 5-6 times before I asked my teacher and he told me to push, and its like night and day. Especially with kinda' thicker metal, it looks a whole ton better.

pushing gives you more penetration in the weld joint .

My teach told me to push rather then pull because it keeps the gas in the weld area. I noticed on alu that ive seen welded if you pull rather then push you end up with a black soot on the weld.
