Default ****Turbo question****

hey guys. i just bought a turbo. it is a garrett turbo. part number is 465366-5018. it is a t04b81 ??? sorry im clueless about the small specifics. i believe it came off of a mercedes truck, a diesel. i was wondering what you guys think about it if i was to put in on my ls/vtec.

personally i dont really know because diesels operate at really low RPMs and i just dont know how efficient this turbo will be at 8k revs?

the reason i bought the turbo is because the guy didnt know what the turbo was.

Given the size of that monster, i woudl say unless it has some wierd *** wheels on it, that it won't be an issue at 8k. But, i'm not expert.

when you say a while? jk
Just wondering, by the time I hit VTEC will it reach my desired boost of about 8-14 PSI depending on how the tuning goes?

1.0+ hotside is gonna give you a crappy powerband I think. But I also think that when it spools that your whole drivetrain will fall out of the bottom end too... (not really)

Good luck with that. Should be interesting...

Edit: On second thought, you might as well go buy a freakin Thumper...

well, I didn't really help either so I guess this is what I'll say about it. You'll need a big downpipe, and a big exhaust for starters. Go ahead and get a large intercooler as well, this turbo ain't playin around. It's probably capable of making more horsepower than you can imagine in a Honda. Another thing to be concerned with is the manifold and wastegate. You MUST have a good placement on your wastegate so that you avoid boost creep. Obviously you don't want this thing to spike when you hit 7K rpm's. I'd tune w/ 6-7psi, and not another lb more at least until you've established consistency and a really solid tune. I'd also use a boost controller for better consistency w/ your boost levels.

Now that you have this turbo though, I'd go ahead and try it out. I've never heard about anyone using such a turbo in a Honda, but that's probably because there are better alternatives. BUT, if no one has tried it..how do they know? You never know..it might give decent results. I couldn't begin to know the results of this turbo on a Honda motor. But it SHOULD make power even at high rpm's for the simple fact that a Honda motor will have to rev much higher than a diesel in order for this type of turbo to reach efficiency. My guess is that it will make some power up there, but how much I couldn't say. Remember though, this is a guess.

What about this one.. made by mautek. never heard of them though. but this is similar to the inline pro manifold. i think the wastegate is in pretty good location..

yeah, it's centered up so it ought to be ok for low boost anyways. Just make sure it's in a central location in relation to the runners-just like inline pro mani's.

That turbo is just as poorly matched to your engine as the DSM turbo you have is. Sell them both, do some READING, and buy something appropriate.

I am no expert, but that turbo sounds like it is capable of power levels exceeding 500hp

Searching is one thing. understanding the concept of how to actually choose a correctly sized turbo is a different thing. So that was very unhelpful, and semi ignorant

PSI doesn't mean jack since every turbo is different; tell everyone what your hp goals are & then it will be easier to help.....
