02 RSX Headlights keep burning out
I've been through 5 headlight bulbs in 2 months. Anyone else have this happen to them?
4 of the 5 were Silverstars and one was OEM. Maybe the Silverstars suck and the OEM was just unlucky?
I'm thinking there is some sort of inconsistency in the power going to the bulb that is causing the problem, but diagnosing that will be a pain, so I'm hoping someone else has previously diagnosed it and can just tell me

are you using the stock OEM light wattages??
If you're running higher wattages than what is recommended ... you will run the risk of premature failure ... plus you could burn up the light wiring harness. If you are only using stock wattages and having this issues ... could be the silverstars are crap or you may have some other hidden issue. Hard to tell ...
I have heard many complaints of the Silverstars burning out after only a couple months of use.

one of my silverstars is burned out right now. ive been through 4 now in about a time of 5 months. im going HIDs soon im tired of changing blubs all the time
I'm wanting to go HID, but I read the H1 bulb type doesn't really work well for running HIDs. What kits did you guys go with? I don't want to spend more than about $250.
yo, I have the same problem, I bought my RSX with some hyper whites in it already and they burned out within 5 months. I was like "cool those were cheap, at least I didn't buy them"
Then I bought the silver stars and about 2 months 1 side burned out, the next day the other side burned out!!!!! WTF 50bucks down the drain!!!!
I just bought some oem sylvania's today so I'll see how long these last.

PIAA last super long!
I've had them on my Accord for 4 years then one finally burnt out a 2 months ago.
As for the HID Kit, the H1 bulb works, but you have to custom fit it, make an X-Bracket for some kits, which was the case for me. 5 hour install job, just because I had to figure out a way to keep the bulb in place. But it's worth the money and time
Lights up a lot more! And I love the 8000K look

I talked to Sylvania, they are going to refund me for all the burnt out bulbs. The refund form is here: http://www.sexyracing.com/hondatech/RefundForm.pdf in case you still have your receipt and the bulbs.

Thanks for the info
I'm looking at around 5000K kits. I had an S2k and love the look. I beleive they are 4100K stock, but "fade" to about 5000K over time.

LoL I had the same problem untill i when to a shop and bought another set and they did something diffrent, They put some type of crease on the end of the bulb. I have had them for 6 months now.
This is a very familiar problem with these cars. Melting harness, and too much power on small guage wires.
Do it right, Retro-fit some HIDs in there and you'll have a new love!

H1 bulbs have high output and perform well. Its true they have one of the shortest life spans of any style of bulb.
ie- a 9006 bulb will have a much higher general life than am H1 of the same brand
That being said, aftermarket H1 replacements seem to be even worse about lasting, especail silverstar bulbs.
I went with a 6000k HID kit, its a hell of a lot better than any regular bulbs for performance. Also its life expecatancy is good for over 2000 hours, where a regular H1 is only about 400.

You guys must have JDM sized hands or else I'm missing something...the RSX is a PITA to change bulbs in.
Are you taking the headlights out to change the bulbs?

Its not that fun, but once you get good at it, its not that bad. I myself have xl size hands and can change bubs in 10 mins

I had the same experience with silverstars, I asked the dealership about it. They said that the RSX runs higher wattage through the bulbs than some of the aftermarket bulbs are designed for, and therefore burn them out quickly.
I'm now using standard el cheapo bulbs and no problems.
If you want beter lighting, save up for HID, I spent almost $100 in silversuck bulbs until I found out my friend with an RSX was having the same problem.

ok I feel a little better knowing that the dealer wasn't trying to pull my leg. My silverstars kept blowing and I thought I had a wiring shortage.
They said that the silverstars were crappy in the RSX. I STILL think some thing else is going on with my lights though.
Anyone else have problems with their inteior climate control lights??? Mines is in and out sometimes. Also a light popped on down by the cupholders ONCE and I haven't seen it again.

when i first got the EP3R headlights I was running H1 bulbs like the RSX uses and found the normal sylvania bulbs not silver stars lasted longest....but still they burnt out way to fast since have upgraded to the TSX HID setup....No idea why the H1 sucks but everyone i know that has had a headlight with that bulb has them go out every few months
Our 02 goes through bulbs a lot too, whether they are purchased from the dealership or aftermarket they die. We have had this problem since the car was new.
