Oil leak - what is it?
350 miles into my build, Ive developed an oil leak. My first suspect was that I over tightened the oil pan bolts (which explains the blue gasket) so I replaced it. The oil leak was still evident. I looked and looked and it appeared this time it was possibly was the driver side differential seal. That was replaced.
So here I am now, the oil leak is still there. I am smelling the oil and I can confirm its my engine oil. However, when it drips to the ground, its already cold, not even warm.
The main seal is brand new. What is it?

Wouldnt be the first time I have seen a crankcase breating leaking like that.
My guess would be to pull it off real quick and see if thats the source.
Would make perfect sense why it would be cold when it hits the ground.

Just stuck a flash light where the flywheel mates to the crank. Yep, it is the main seal. hopefully its leaking around the plate and I can just Hondabond it, otherwise this is going to be another afternoon to fix it.
I think you got it Mike. The fact that there's oil residue inside the bell housing (assuming you had your fw cover installed) means it's the main seal. Just an afternoon to fix

I just recently had the same problem.......I drop the tranny replace every seal on that side main seal, o ring on breather box, distributor ring, vtec gasket ring, oil pan ect.......pretty much all the major gasket on the passenger side.......bam!!! Done after 3.5 hrs later!
Oh but wait still had a freaking oil leak after all that work with the new parts!!!! F&*K!!!!!!
So we dropped the tranny again and found out that it was the plug on the block located above and near the main seal had some how it had backed itself out enogh to cause a leak.
Check everything even take the main seal plate off and reseal it with HONDA-BOND!!!!
Oh yeah throw a new cluctch and light weight flywheel on there too....make the hard work even more rewarding.
And I owe a big thanks to a good friend.
Hope that helps.

Well, if the plug on the oil galley( located up above the main seal cover) has been out to clean out the passages during the build and the alu. crush washer has not been replaced that can also be the source, I have seen this one before.

Migs,
My suggestion would be to go to NAPA or some chain parts store and ask about the dye that you put into your motor oil.
(You must do this at night) Put a whole can in, and let the engine run. Once you feel that the dye has circulated, cut the lights in your garage or whatever then get a portable light and look around the engine until you see the dye react to the light in some random place.
I had a mysterious oil seal leak and after using the dye I found that one of my cam seals was bad.
