Default misfire in new build.

well i did a hf to si swap recently and i rebuilt the si. im running vitara pistons, sohc zc head and si intake manifold if that helps. new plugs, same wires, same dizzy.

it is having a rough idle probably due to a lean misfire but i already checked the wires to see if it was the ignition...it wasnt...every time i shorted out a wire by grounding it the engine would idle worst so im sure that all cylinders are at least doing something...**** i even got shocked.

going to check out the plugs next....and how would i check the fuel injectors??

it idles at 1250 rpms and it doesnt over heat...threw in a gas analyzer and there is 8% o2 and about around 85-100 ppm of hc and it is not an exhaust leak because at first we thought it was an exhaust leak so we took out the o2 on the exhaust manifold and put the gas analyzer there...same reading. ecu is also throwing a code 1 which is o2 and i just replaced that bitch yesterday.

when you drive the vehicle it seems to hesitate at low rpms no matter what until you get it up to 3k or so rpms...coil?? i drove fine before with the HF still in the car...only thing wrong with the HF is that it had the funny idle.

**edit...i reset the ecu everytime i did something by pulling the hazard fuse for 10 seconds.

umm...ok checked out the plugs...they had oil in them???!!!! wtf??? could just be valve cover leaking oil into the holes because the crx wasnt blowing any ginormous smoke clouds and they had a black lip on the plug...the white part is still white...has a few blotches of black on half of the plugs...

check out the plug wires. omg...7k-10k ohms resistance?? could they be the culprit?? well i will bring my civic wires tomorrow and see if they are.

how do i check the fuel injectors to see if they are plugged????

Take a screwdriver or mechanic's stethoscope and place it on top of the injector, you will hear it clicking if it is opening properly. For clogged injectors, you could try pulling them and cranking the motor to see how the stream of each is compared to the others, or just try running some seafoam through that ish.

i could just have the timing off....

well on the crank dont you just line that mark on the timing cover up with the TDC mark on the crank???

and on the camshaft on SOHC engines dont you just line up the mark with the pointer on the cover behind the camgear?

^ on the cam gear there should be an "up" stamp, and 2 small indents,(1 on each side) and the "up" should be on top and the 2 indents should be lined up horizontally with the surface of the head..

then on the crankshaft pulley there's a mark painted WHITE ,,you line that up with the little pointer on the timing belt cover..

thats your cyl 1 at tdc...also if theres no mark any more on the pulley you can stick a long screwdriver in cyl 1 spark plug hole and turn the motor till the driver is all the way up and the cam gear is set at tdc..

maybe it could be the igntion timing also..might be to advanced..?

hmm...thanks for the input. well tomorrow im going to check the position of the crank and camshafts again then after that i will re-time the ignition timing and i'll get back to you guys. this has been making me very frustated cause i want it to run good---college kid putting too much money into his car. how come you thought it would be too advanced?? i thought it would be retarded that would cause this. well anyways me and my buddy had a choice of sliding the belt one tooth one way or the other because i happened to sit in between. we timed the engine and we have it at the red mark on the crank now but runs like crap still...sputters and misfires...ecu is still throwing a o2 sensor code.

put the gas analyzer on and im making..holy ***** 22:1 afr. must just be the misfire messing up the reading.

hopefully i get this running tomorrow.
