friends type-r has problems
My friend has a 00' type-r. Has i think 60xxx miles or maybe even 70k miles. His car is bone stock and he is the 1st owner of the car. It burns oil to the max and blows out blue smoke from what he claims. His valves are making noise. Anyone got a clue? I mean dont valve usually make noise after 90k miles? And burning oil....how bad would rings on a 60-70k mile type-r be? Is there something im missing? I also heard from someone that the valveseals should be changed and it will stop burning oil, but i dont know if hes right or not.
I told him to use a little heavier weight oil instead of the factory weight, but what do you guys think?

I think that's just a bandaid of a fix. How much (in quarts) is the motor burning between oil changes?

honestly he seems like he doesnt like to take care of his car. his oil is brown or lets say black as hell, its below the 2nd dot almost empty, its broken down to max hasnt been changed for god knows how long and he just adds oil on top. says hes going to do oil change and use some sort of vegetable oil that "stops burning oil" i think its called redline oil, but i dont know if redline is vegetable oil or not lmaooo.
i have a compression tester, but i dont want to touch his car. everytime i do a compression test on someones car the next day something breaks on their car and they blame me from the compression test then few days later find out the problem had nothing to do with the compression test.
im guessing he burns about 3 quarts before 3000 miles, but i think if he uses valvoline full synt. oil 20w50 he should be fine for a little while because a friend of mine that builds motor told me if your burning oil use valvoline 20w50 because it burns the less compared to any other oil.

Sounds like he knows nothing about cars, and isn't worthy of a Type-R... but thats just me...
Just change the oil to the recommended capacity, with the recommended weight, using a DECENT brand. Work from there diagnosing the problem.
May I suggest you show him the forums at http://bobistheoilguy.com to try and teach him some stuff about motor oil too.

hey man i told him my part. if he lets his car starve for oil hes going to spin rod bearing(s). recommended weight is like 5w-30. if hes blowing out blue smoke i dont suggest him use 5w-30.

I would consider this a generalization. The valve seals will wear out, no matter what. They are wear items.

how often does he change his oil? shouldn't be seals unless be beats the **** out of it with old oil. try a valve adjustment and some nice clean oil and see what happens.
