Default What wire to tap into on an O2 sensor for an A/F guage?

Like the title says. I tried to hook up my Auto-Meter A/F gauge to my O2 sensor and it won't work. I get power but no signal. I tapped into the white wire. Is that the correct wire? I have a 1993 Prelude and my O2 sensor has 4 wires. 2 black wire, 1 gray I believe, and 1 white. Thanks for any help.

2 black wires are for sensor heater
gray wire is sensor input
white wire is sensor ground

i'll double check tommorow at work.

CORRECTION White wire is the correct wire to tap into. A green wire should be sensor ground.

Try checking the white wire with a volt meter. Should fluctuate 0.1V to 0.9 volts.

I tapped into one of the black wires and I get a very lean reading. I guess that is why. I'll check it out later today. Thanks for the help. You wouldn't happen to know which wire it is on the ECU?

Ok, I hooked it up to D14 but still do not get a reading. Now I'm getting CEL 41. I'm kind of pissed because I just got a "new" O2 sensor because I was getting that before. It fixed it and now it's back. All I did was splice into D14 and I know I don't have a short. I'm getting very aggravated.

41 = primary O2 heater. when you removed the gauges wire from the black wire did you make sure it was not disconnected? (the black wires are the heater wires)

Actually it was 43. I got that before and it is related to the O2 sensor. I just cut the wire from the back of the gauge and made sure it doesn't touch anything and left it there.

43 = fuel system supply.
typically set if the O2 sensor signal isn't strong enough. Sets before O2 sensor CEL.

where did you splice into D14? how far from the connector? hopefully within 4-6 inches, anything further away than that and the shield comes into play.

About 2-3 inches I just stripped it a little and soldered the wire for the gauge to it. Before I put everything back together the gauge would at least come on. Now it won't come on at all. But when I hook back up to the other wire it will show that I am running lean. I'm basically waiting on my dad to get home so I can use his multimeter to check the voltage.

Here is a video of it hooked up to, I believe, the orange/white wire.

since what you actually have there is a 0-1 volt meter. You have about .1-.2 volts on that wire. It's been a while since I've looked at one of these things. It may be the other way, you may have .8-.9 volts.

honestly why are you messing with it? curiousity or just something different in the cabin? It's virtually worthless other than a pretty light show.

I just want to get an idea of my A/F ratio and I plan to boost my car so I thought I might as well get one. I'll probably get a wideband in a year or so.
