I went to get my car smogged today, and they were unable to find the plug that they plug into(on my vehicle). I have a 2000 honda civic. I took apart my pannel under the steering wheel, but i couldnt find the plug. Is there another location where this plug can be placed? I need to get a smog asap.
Thanks for your help.
Thanks for your help.
Would the plug for plugging a troubleshooting device in to your car also be the smog plug? If so, check the right back side of your center console. There should be a grey plug back there, might be it.

If they (smog shop) couldnt find your obd2 plug in, which is on the drivers side kinda close to the hood release, then they didnt know what they are doing & you should go somewhere else where they have a clue.

I took off the pannel and looked for myself, its not there. Maybe its tucked in or something, im not sure. Do cars from mexico,us,canada, japan all have them in the same spot?
Also is there a way for me to follow the wires and find it? What part of the car does the plug come from?

If it's not under the dash, and not the passenger side near the center console, then someone must have moved. Did you have an alarm installed, maybe they moved it.

Where does that plug come from? I know what it looks like but i need to know where it comes from so that i can try to follow the wires and find the plug. Thanks
the plug on mine is right there in the pic... it's brown and is facing downwards so you have to crawl under there and look up. I thought there was a federal law that states that the plug has to be in the vicinity of the steering column meaning it can only be but so far from it. Sounds like someone moved it and if they did it can't be so far and look for the brown plug.
Look within six inches of the hood release. It's hidden behind the gray panel. The connector is black and "points downward." It is WELL to the left of the steering wheel. There is a metal tab that it comes down from, I believe, D-shaped, with a rectangle in the middle of the D. The connector should fit in the rectangle!!
regardless of color it still has to be basically right under the column and if I'm not mistaken it's 3 inches to the left or to the right.
