Detailed step-by-step of how the theives broke into my CRX
okay, you guys probably gonna see this message posting around, so please dont sue me, it was posted merely so you understand what to do to prevent these ******** from breaking in your cars.
last saturday my car was broken into. my hood latch wasnt functioning after that, so today i had the time to inspect the problem. first thing first, removed the bumper to open the hood:

next, the Sherlock Homles in me walked around and observed the crime scene. after a few minutes upon inspection, here's how i think the thieves got into my car:
First step is to unlatched the hood with a 'hook' tool through the opening of bumper radiator cooling vents (the vents is uncut btw).

unlocking the hood if not careful enough will activate the alarm horn, so they must quickly popped the hood, with two guys standing on each side, one removed the battery neg. terminal, one cutting the alarm horn wires (also pocket'd the alarm fuse + slot to prevent me from reinstall the alarm horn):

after that, making sure no1 is alarmed by the sound, one guy will try to unlock the passenger side door, got inside the car and unlocked the driver door letting the other guy in.

then it's time to remove the cheap $175 alpine mp3 deck:

emptied the coin tray:

popped the trunk just to see a clean and emptied trunk. they must be very disappointed.
i do have a garage but it's already home of another CRX. this car is my gas-saving-beater, so it always been parked outside. These ******** must've been watching my car for quite sometimes now, but didnt strike because i always parked it on the left side of my house which i can see from my living room and bedroom. last week i moved it to the other side, and within two days, they striked.
anyways, now you have seen detailed instruction of possibly two professional thieves, so the rest is up to you to decide, whether to prevent or ignore. In my opinion, the first important step we should look into is how to prevent them from popping up the hood.

Glad to hear you still have your car with little demage.
I've been considering relocating my hood cable, but maybe some sort of block-off plate would also work...?
My car is fairly safe, but I am still paranoid. It was almost broken into before. Now its parked inside a garage with an autolock, killswitch, alarm, and my girlfriends car blockes it at night.

The cable goes through the fender lining, so no. Just peel back the plastic.

the easiest spot to get to the cable is through the bumper grill. they could also get to it through the fender lining, though if your car is slammed, it will make the job alot harder.
you could run the hood cable through the frame rail under the driverside fender to prevent the retards from gettin access from under the wheel well and that will get rid of the slack in the cable so it wont be easy to get through the front bumper also.
I was worried about the same thing, theives popping the hood so quick and killing the siren no1 would hear it. I spent $50 and got a "back up siren" which has a built in battery. It goes off w/ the alarm and when it looses 12v (like if the neg battery cable is off) it screams for a long time. It requires a key not unlike a bike lock key to turn it off. $50 well spent IMO.

another thing i've learned from this experience is: NEVER SECURE YOUR DECK. i'd just install it so it wont pop in and out during daily driving, but i WILL not make it impossible to remove because once the thieves got inside the car they WILL expletive UP THE DECK and anything around it if they cant get it out. i'd rather lose the deck without messing up my center console & radio bracket.
I will admit, I'm happy I park in a locked parking garage with much nicer cars around me at night, but I guess after finals I could fit it into my schedule to work with the hood cable.

i wonder what kind of rights do you have over a thief caught on act on your driveway property? do you have the right to swing a pry bar at him? logically speaking, you'd have to do something to stop them from running while waiting for the cops to come and get them.
i'd love to do that to a thief, but i dont want to be charged with 'assault with deadly weapon' bullshit...

If you want to set up the car as an IED, make it so that the battery explodes, throwing acid on them. Then you just say that they must have shorted out the battery while trying to steal the car, thus causing the explosion themselves.
Seriously, the prior post about a back-up siren with it's own battery back-up is a good one.
Another thing to think about is that it's near impossible to lock down a Honda hood. Even if the latch stays hooked, they are pretty flexable and could be bent by a strong guy.
Put the back-up siren (with it's own back-up battery) under the passenger's side fender, where the air intake resonator normally is, not under the hood.

I came across a universal remote "dead bolt" system for our doors once. I havent been able to find it again but its worth some research for many of us.
Well I guess they could just break your window out to get inside.
....I hope one day to come across some idiot breaking into ANY car, let alone mine. Bloody knuckles anyone?

those are definately not proffesional theives,i dont know why you're calling them that..pro theives dont break into a car for a damn radio, crackheads do that....either methheads or crackheads did this...also so you know pro-thieves dont steal hondas..
by the way how you mounted your siren is all wrong//hide that thing and its wires, and get a battery backup for your alarm,,,also based on how the siren is intstalled im going to assume that the brain and ignition wires are installed like crap also...
me personally i re-routed the hood cable throught the engine bay and it comes out in the interior, you would never find it although its right there in your face...i took out the lock rods in the door and installed poppers for the locks, also installed the sedan rear door handle with no key holes in them,,,,i have a good alarm with battery backup, one siren under the hood hidden and one siren in the interior so it drives the theive crazy if they ever do get in...The alarm brain is hidden behind the cluster all wires are black and hidden in factory loom,,all relays are built into the brain there are no exterior big bulky relays.....and i live in the worst hood in nj and my car hasnt been broken in yet .

instead of hood pins i put hood lock, that way even if they get to the cable, still cant open the hood. put some killswitch
hood lock + killswitch = goodnight sleep
hood lock + killswitch = goodnight sleep
the alarm was installed by a local shop. i hate where they mounted that siren also, and thought about relocating it but the thieves were one step ahead. i called them pro because they knew how to get into my car without leaving a scratch on the outside. this is the first time i've been jacked during the past 4 years living here. other times involved broken window or bang'd up window side protector.
i also just found out they took the housing payment check for my rental property in texas. ******* losers
