Default 95 GSR compression/distributor

The other day I was at a stop sign. I went to pull forward and my car just did a light back fire and shut off. I had it towed to a shop and they said the distributor went out and resulted in now spark. So bluh bluh I got a remanufacted one. They put that in and said that they have fuel and spark but compression is low across 3 cylinders. They are thinking my car jumped timing by about two notchs.
Is this possible? Does anyone think both of these could of gone out at the same time?
Car has 165k miles and I personally have never changed the belt. Thanks for the input.

So after they put the distributor on it still wont crank? Im doubting the car jumped timing, if it did, you'd have low compression in all 4 cylinders (being that the valves are staying open longer then they should). Thus, I highly highly doubt the timing thing is legit, given you should replace the belt and water pump. The compression is most likely either them flat out lying or because the car has 165k on it.
