What pistons are you using? Might not want to go oversized with cams and high CR pistons...

you cant just put oversized valves in and go, you have to have the valve seats machined. you are better off contacting head builders and get their opinion. headgames, import builders, etc. i would say the stock head flows well enough that you probably wont see a difference without substantial headwork.

^ Good advice.

You have a JDM Type-R engine, I assume (11:1CR)? Honestly, if I were you, I'd just run stock valves, they're fine. I would just spend the money on some good titanium retainers, valvesprings, a 1-layer headgasket, and a good tune.

im thinking about if its worth going with std size flat valves and a 1 layer oem headgasket

is the extra $300+ worth the bump in compression from the 11:1 for use with m22x?

and how much compression bump will the 1layer give me on my setup?

1-Layer Headgasket should bump you up about .5CR. Which woulld be perfect for those cams.

which part of the HG would bump up .5?

so flat valves and 1layer HG = 11.8?

I'm not sure about the valves... I'd just keep stock valves with a 1-Layer Headgasket, save some money, and you won't lose much performance between the two valves.

according to rocket, retainers that are snap fit on matching springs prevent excess wear

You will be limited by cam choices and will need to worry more about piston valve clearence.

You can pull it off, just make sure you take off the valve cover at regular intervals and check them. Ferrea retainers are some of the best IMO, and I haven't had a single issue daily driving with them for 20k miles so far.
