Hey guys, bought my bike used a week or so ago, rode it about once or twice and it runs like a champ. Everything is fine but I let one of my less experience friend ride my bike and he took it for a spin, didn't see him for about half an hour so we ended up starting up a search party and found him down the road trying to kick start the bike. The kickstart won't move at all, it is stuck and I can't get it to crank. Any idea what is wrong w/ the bike? Piston seized up? I think he just hanged on to first gear all the way and over revved, I am taking it to a shop on Tuesday, just want to get a heads up on what the issue is if anyone has had the same problem. Thanks.

motor is seized! Gonna probably need a piston, ring and a cylinder hone at the very least. Unless your friend revved the **** out of it, it was probably gonna happen anyways. They usually run the best right before they go!

 

Do you have a kickstart pressure release lever right above your clutch lever???

 

Cr 250s do not have compression releases on them, usually only found on 4 stroke motors

 

Didn't know it was a 2-stroke.. I'm a Yamaha rider so what do I know..

Great...I am pretty sure he revved the **** out of it but I cannot confirm since i was not there when it happend. What do you mean it was going to happen anyway? Was there anything I can do to prevent this? What could cause something like this to happen, low oil? How much would it cost to get this repaired and will I notice any loss of power after this is fixed? Will it run as good as it did before before the motor seized? Thanks for all the input guys, I take the bike to the shop tommorow.

if you get it repaired correctly you wont ever know the difference unless there is some serious damage to the cylinder.

there are many things that could have caused this. too lean, ran it too hot, not a good premix ect ect. and like turbopete said, it was gonna happen sooner or later. 2 strokes seize up, it happens. but dont let dumb friends ride yo **** no mo.

Oh fa sho, no mo dumb homies riding my shizznics anymo son! I was running Honda's HP4 2-stroke oil, mixing 32:1 with 92 octane. Any idea how much it would cost to replace all the parts and have this repaired?

 

sounds like the proper mix ratio. Who did you buy the bike from? Was he a friend? do you know the history of the bike?Could have sold you a bike that was already beat on. Either way I guess that dosen't matter now. I personally haven't delt with 2 stokes for quite some time so I really couldnt begin to guess what the cost would be, sorry.

Well its HP-2 two stroke oil and mixing it at 32:1 is fine. If the motor was cool and he jumped on it, the piston and the cylinder have two different expansion rates so that could have done it. WFO on a cold motor =seized.

 

A lil update on the bike, I found a motor on eBay, looks very clean and has a lot of goodies inside it. I am currently out of town right now but UPS tracker says its sitting in my mailbox. I will post more updates as they come...

 

dude i ride 05 ktm 125 sx and used to ride 01 cr 125

---sell 01 cr 125 has many problems and so does 03-05 cr 85...it has to do with lotta crappy leaky *** water pump

 

here is problem that a friend of mine had one of his shift forks in the tranny got bent and it would not let him kick startt the bike...the only way to tell is can you shift the bike through the gears without hanging up? also take at the spark plug out and see what it look like if he over revved it the piston might have hit the bottom of the spark plug. also drain the oil and see if you see any metal shaving in the oil... the best way to see if the motor is seized is to pull the head off and see it for your self ...i have been riding 2 strokes my whole life beeen through 95 kx 80, 92 kx 250, 98 cr250, 2001 kx 250. so if you have any ? pm me..

and 1 more thing dont let people ride your **** unless you no 100% that they can ride a bike.. i seen plenty of people say that they can ride a bike then when they get on the bike they ask where the gas or there a clutch? and they end up breaking or crashing your bike and then you get left with the bill. had it happen to me so there only a couple of people that are i let ride my bike is my dad and my roomate b/c he has a bike himself so no problem. but anyways good luck with the bike.

Yeah, the motor is seized up for sure, I took it to a Honda motorcycle dealer and they opened it up, the piston basically was destroyed. Nobody but my *** is getting on my bike once the new motor is installed.


BTW, here is the new motor:

It starts first kick every single time. It has tons of compression and is very fast. The clutch works great and shift smoothly. All the gears pull hard. You get a Sunstar Shift Lever that is literally brand new. The front sprocket is also brand new on it. This motor is perfect! "

 

You did mix oil in the fuel right? 32:1 or there about

Yes, I used Honda's HP-2 Full Synthetic 32:1 mixture.

 

Just a little update, my bike is back up and running with the new motor shown above. It has awsome compression and the PSI is at 220! (average is about 180). This thing picks up the front wheel even at 5th gear, loving it! Switching over to MC-1 oil mixture also, rated 50:1 for that extra shaazzamm kick. Thanks for all the comments and advice from everyone - goin tommorow for some ridin dirty!.

 

Hey man I have the exact problem you did!. How much was it to fix the bike?

 

5 year old thread.... but to rebuild a motor is about 700. thats what my local shop charges me
