Default Engine knock, stalling engine h23

Ive got a major problem.

I scored some 5w-30 oil from a friend, which happened to be 10w-30 oil in a 5w-30 quart. I was a quart low, so i put this oil in and drove my car a few miles, upon about a mile the engine started to knock. BAD IDEA AT 141,xxx with 5w-30 all its life! Now, whenever i drive it it doesnt idle and when it does stall the oil and battery light come on.

MORAL OF THE STORY: Don't be a cheap *** and buy your own motor oil, even if the company you work for doesnt pay for 6 weeks.

Its an h23 4th gen with 141,xxx miles. I take it theres no way to salvage anything out of this motor is there? There is an apparent knock, VERY loud.

I've put the shell or whatever you want to call my knockmobile up for sale. Ive got some rotas and a system i can try to get money out of to fix or repair my car or whatever i need to do. Im an 18 year old senior in highschool and ive pretty much effed up my mode of transportation.

Can anyone give me some solutions, finacially and automotive to my problem?

Man just drain your oil out of the oil pain then go get some 5w-30 oil and see if that helps.

I will, but ive driven it with major knock for almost 10 miles. Had to go to work =/

I'll update and see if a fresh oil change helps.

BTW: I'm not mechinacally stupid, so i could do a swap or even a rebuild at my neighbors shop with his tools.

Need more wisdom, senior members ATTACK!

Engines can and will knock.. I heard of people using lower grade gasonline and their engines will knock but if they use something like premium it won't knock. Your engine just needs some fresh 5w-30 and it should be fine.

Will an oil change really take care of any knock present? I highly doubt it but i will try it.

Well, if you hear a knock that badly, then I wouldn't drive it very far unless absolutely necessary. If you do have rod knock then you probably spun a bearing. The more you drive the more the space between the bearing and the piston shaft become because of wear. I would recommend droping the pan and checking for metal flakes in the pan. If you do have a the tools and the time. I would pull the engine and have the crank machined, and replace the bearings.

On my first h23 I spun a bearing and continued to drive on it and I ended up putting a piston through the block. I had a second h23 that I heard the knocking, so as a precaution, I tore it apart and had everything checked out. Luckily the crank wasn't damaged and neither where the pistons, so I just replaced the bearings and didn't have any additional problems with it.

Wtf...who gets engine knock from pouring a lower viscosity oil in and mixing a small doseage to a one step higher viscosity...

I don't think your friend even gave you engine oil, dude. Maybe he gave you some cooking oil.
