Leather Seat Damage after paint job?
Hello,
About 3 weeks ago I purchased a 2004 Honda Accord EX V6. Has Leather seats.
I noticed a poor paint job on the driver door after purchasing the car, which I sadly missed when I purchased the car. The dealer said that they did it, and would fix it. So far so good.
So, they kept the car a week and painted the door again. When I got the car, the driver side leather seats were "cracked" on the leather closest to the door. I'm afraid that the heat lamps they use to dry the paint damanged the leather. Is this possible???
thanks for any advice.

I doubt it. Seriously, there's no way to paint a door with windows down or with the door open (even if a little).
In fact, after you paint the door, you can't remove the paper or whatever that is protecting the vehicle from overspray, and that process of curing the paint will take a couple of hours at least.
My opinion, is that, the seat had been like that before, problem is, you just had never seen it before the door had been painted.
I've been in the auto business (body shop) for a couple of years now, and I've seen my customers screaming at me and the other estimators for cases similar to yours.
So, this message goes out to ALL MEMBERS OF HONDA TECH OUT THERE. When you drop your car off at a place, check it out before you leave, inspect your car as if you were picking up after the job was completed. Notice all scratches, dings, dents, spots, cracks, stains and broken things, parts or whatever missing in the outside and inside of your vehicle. Check how the car sounds, from inside and out, and then..... proceed leaving the car at the facility.

thanks for the reply. I actually happened to have cleaned and conditioned the leather myself just the weekend before giving the car to this shop, and didn't notice this issue. This shop has painted this door twice now ( once before I purchased the car, and then this last week.) In both cases they did a very poor job, and shown themselves to be incompentent. This second time they truly broke more than they fixed ( the door handle is now "rough" feeling, was smooth, the side molding stip is now barely hanging on, and the door, which previously opened very smoothly, now creaks and groans...). Not only that... but they mucked with my stereo settings too! Yeash!
Thanks for the advice. I won't push the seat issue, but I guess they are going to have to paint/repair the other issues again. Hopefully I can convince the dealer to take it to a Honda shop, rather this poorly run place...
<sigh> Another week without my new Honda! Having driven a 4cyl for 11 years before this... I'm loving the V6 in my new used Honda! I sure hope they don't damage more...
thanks again,
Mesh
