question about oil (about viscosity)
i was wondering since i live in socal and the temp doesnt really get that low, what weight oil should i use. right now i use 5-30 mobil 1 synth. what weight oil could i run safely? thanks in advance
I have used 0-30 synthetic for about 30k miles. You can get away with using various weights. Just remember that as the cold weight(5) increases it will take longer to get oil to the top of your engine on startup. As the hot weight increases you will get pumping losses when hot.
5-30 is fine. The 5 is for colder temps. The oil is thinner. Once it warms up it goes to 30. If you were in the artic or possibly someplace really cold you could consider 0-30.
There are some people think oils will add HP but in reality unless you run a high HP motor you will probably not notice any gains especially since you use Mobil1
