engine shops in So Cal... are there only 3? *searched*
I only know of Inlinefour, prostreet, and after some searching Laskey. They all look like and have the reputation of top notch race shops, but I'm just looking to fix my daily driven prelude its got an h22 and has spun a bearing (I think). I don't need to race prep it, just get it running again and on a college students budget
I pulled the engine myself to try and cut out labor costs but thier still too expensive.
any recomendations for regular non-racing, or less expensive, shops?
I know good work doesn't come cheap but $1,700 is more than 2 months pay for me

Thanks for the reply, I totally understand that good work warrants good pay, as far as what kind of "build" I'm looking for, I'm only looking for a rebuild I was totally fine with the power my engine made with just an intake and exhaust I want to keep my engine as stock/reliable as possible.
to be honest with you, if you arent looking to pay for a rebuild(whcih may cost around $1000-1600.00, just for the block itself, no labor to remove and install and other parts such as timing belt and head gasket. the other option would be to just get another h22 stock low block to replace the one you have in there.

thats true...i rebuilt my block twice and it cost as much as buying a new motor with low miles...which is much more reliable...

I'll tell you one thing: never go to Inline Four for anything besides shopping there. Dunno about the other shops.

you mean a used motor w/ low miles? the problem with that is you wont know the full history of the motor and what kind of life it's had. a rebuild done right would be better since you know what kind of history it's had and if the shop is reputable then they should have gone the full 9 to make your motor running like new. i know a place here in kent, wa that does rebuilds and they offer 8 yr / 80,000 mile warranty on their work. err here i'll just paste what they do:
" Most companies use chemicals to clean engines before the rebuilding process. This leaves particles that can later dislodge and damage your engine. At U.S. Engines, we bake the engine for 12 hours at 800 degrees, leaving nothing to chance.
Once the engine is clean, we bore each cylinder to the next size larger, increasing capacity and power. Next we replace bearings, pistons, rings and plugs and straighten the crankshaft and rods. Then your engine is rinsed clean with hot anti-rust formula for 15 minutes.
Finally, we test each engine to ensure that when you put it back in your car, it will give you years of trouble-free service. With our 8 year – 80,000-mile, no nonsense warranty, you can be confident that our company stands behind our work. "
i need to rebuild my motor and im going to take it there soon. it's 1400 for nonvtec, mine has vtec so it's 2100. i'd do that. does even honda themselves offer 8 yr / 80k miles on their warranties?
oh and that's 5 years of labor for free.

To give you an idea of what its going to cost for a rebuild with labor, roughly ok.
$1600 for a full rebuild
$300 for assorted parts, timing belt, head gasket, other gaskets, and new water pump.
Remove and replace engine labor, $800.00
So about $2700 if you are going to rebuild your engine and the labor and parts involved.
IF you find a good h22 used core, you're lookint at:
$500? for the block
$300 for assorted parts, etc.
$800 labor
So thats about $1600 or so.
Those are your options.
