Default Favorite Full Coilover System?

Being as I just accepted a position at work making literally double what I make now, I kind of wanted to buy a present for my car: a full coilover system. I currently have Tokico Illumina's and H&R Sport springs on a 97 Civic CX.

I've been looking at the following:

Power In Control Select
AMR Engineering
Form/Function
Tein Super Street
OmniPower Sport
A'PEXi N1 Damper

So please select your favorite one and give a brief explanation why. If you prefer something else, feel free to let me know what and why.

It would be beneficial to tell us how you plan to use your suspension, i.e., track, street, DD, variation of both.

btw: congrats on new job offer

Mainly a daily driver on less-than-forgiving roads, wet weather, and the occasional 1/4 pull or auto-x event.

Really, being made in Taiwan doesn't have as much to do with it as most people think. I wish people would stop spreading this misconception.

FYI-There are only 2-3 major contract manufacturers for coilovers..APEX'i is just repackaged Megans.

What is wrong with taiwan? Do you think you are better because you are from the US? Do you think taiwanese people are dumb? Or maybe we eat off of the floor and do not know how to count?

I really hate people like you that think you are superior to other countries, like we are not as smart as you. I vote for any suspension not made by rednecks that dont like taiwan.

When most people say it, they say it because they associate Taiwanese manufacturing with a lot of low-quality, inexpensive versions of products (all sorts of products) on the market, and so the coilovers that are made there must also be low quality and inexpensive.

I don't think its a direct shot at Taiwan or it's manufacturing capabilities, its just an incorrect generalization that people make in an effort to give an over-simplified answer, to a question that is asked very often. Most people already know that this is untrue, even some of the people who make these statements.

something i don't like about every damper i have seen manufatured in Taiwan, japan, or china (please note this is all that i have seen, either by people posted on HT or from other sources). Is that they all have very linear dyno charts. (all that i have seen that is). And im talking about from the dampers that go on sale for $500 once in awhile all the way up to the stuff that retails for over $2000.

Its more of a design trend/philosophy, than a limitation caused by where it's manufactured. Is it optimal? Not for us, but then again, not *all* of them are like this, and we don't really have a lot of dyno charts here on H-T to compare. Although I can easily see how a person could come to that conclusion based on the info that's out there (which is not much).

Apex'i N1 ExV is a good choice. Great with 12k springs. $800 a set.

That's a little too low, don't you think? At that height, you are sure to run out of travel; front upper control arms hitting the shock tower, shocks having less than 1" of travel before hitting the bumpstops etc. I know there are mods that you can do to the shock tower so the upper control arm doesn't hit as much, but then other things will start to bind and bottom out, like the front fascia, underbody panel etc unless you have appropiate spring rates to help prevent the front end from bottoming at that particular height.

Also, lowering the car too much will severly change the suspension geometry angles possibly causing the car to handle worse than stock. Things like roll center, dynamic camber and dynamic toe (bumpsteer), and body roll can increase to a point of diminished performance (and also unsafe and unpredictable) handling if a car is lowered too much, beyond what any stock suspension arm pickup locations are engineered for. Undue angles on the constant-velocity joints will cause them to wear faster. Honda cv joints are designed with a dual arc which tend to wear out at an accelerated rate when lowered excessively causing excessive angles. Some aftermarket axles are designed with single arc designs to help this.
