Default My '94 Honda Del Sol rebuild...

Okay well i picked up this Sol a few months ago. Before you look at the pictures and start hating, it was $400 and the guy had EVERY part that came off of it. The guy was located in Valley Springs, CA. Near the Stockton area.

We (my girl and i) left our house around 3pm when she got off work. While she had been at work i was busy picking up a truck and trailer from a couple people so we could transport the shell.

Uppon first arrival of the Del sol, i was a little disapointed you could say. The guy sent me a picture of this

saying that it was exactly how it looks now, and that he has all the parts to go back on it. When the del sol actually looked like this.

After a few minutes of disapointment, i decided to pick it up anyways, (common $400!!) especially since we had been driving for about 5 hours already i was not about to go home empty handed.

But, true to his word, all the parts were SOMEWHERE. He had brand new fenders and a bumper which i appreciate, but he also gave me two dozen parts and pieces of random cars that will not fit in anywhere in the del sol.

After day one of the rebuild i was able to get most of the front end together, along with all of the backend. Leaving the car to look like this

Not bad for only working on the car for a total of about 3 hours and searching through a dozen baggies trying to find the nuts and bolts to put everything together.

The next day i decided to get started on the interior, putting everything in and pulling the stuff that was not needed.

Notice the nice rip in the driver side door pannel....

The following day my girlfriend and i (yes she helps me with all my car ****) got to cleaning up the interior pieces and painting the old faded pieces. All in all it was a pretty slow day but progress is progress right? I also got about half done with the auto to manual swap which has been relatively easy so far...

Always loved this part of the sol...trunk roof storage area...

That's all the updates for now. I'm trying to decide between going with an RSX front end conversion or going with the factory Del sol front end w/ some style of lip...as of right now the lip is winning...
Here's a pic of the rsx conversion for all those wondering...and yes it is copied from another member of HT who will remain nameless...

Next thing to decide is the motor, no matter what it's going to be turbo'd w/ a t3/t4 since i have one sitting in my garage and enough parts to put a complete turbo kit together...I just need to decide which motor. The car will be converted to RHD, if you don't like the RHD thing, you don't need to post. The front clip i'm getting comes with (or could not include) a b16 w/ lsd so i was thinking it would be easier to swap everything, motor included.
Motor options...
B16
LS
GSR
H22. I work with a guy who has a complete and built and sleeved H22 sitting in his storage unit. And i'm sure he wouldn't mind getting rid of it for cheap..

Opinions are always a plus, and some input on the motor situation would also be nice. If you're coming here to flame or try to convince me not to go with the RHD, or if you're going to come post telling me to go d w/ boost. Go kick rocks and dont post. The motor options listed are the only choices i'm going with. No i wont do boosted D or K (not because i don't want to with the K, it's because i have no where near enough $$$$...) Any other input would be nice and appreciated! Updates will follow once more progress has been done...

I'd say an H22 would really make it move nicely. And, I'd stay away from the RSX conversion, it's a lot of work for something that doesn't really fit the car's body lines.

All I can say is wow, that is going to be a lot of work. I found to that sometimes when you get into a project like that you will fine your self getting board with it, unless you have mass money to put into it fast. If not it will get old before your even close to done. I have been there done that.

Are all the wire's ok? Looks like you have some hanging under the dash.

hey everyone, thanks for the input. if you read my post "I'm trying to decide between going with an RSX front end conversion or going with the factory Del sol front end w/ some style of lip...<u>as of right now the lip is winning...</u>" i don't really plan on going with the rsx conversion, just food for thought. keep checking in to see the progress

Why don't you just stick that high compression Ls/Vtec that you have for sale in it?

Okay, a little update today!

Finally got the car lowered, yeah yeah yeah i'm sure you're all saying "get the motor in it first before you do that" BUT WAIT! before you say anything. So i was out in my integra pulling parts when i saw something hanging on my coilovers, bent down to pull it off and on the strut i saw some letters (not oem style) so i moved the coil sleeve out of the way to look at it (the car is on stands right now w/ no tires) and KYB was stamped on the side of the strut. Now, when i bought the car the guy told me he had some OEM shocks w/ omni power coilovers. Guess he was wrong eh? Anyways so i realized wow, i should ask more than 120 shipped for these. Then i glanced over at my sol and got to wondering if they would fit....

Well, after removing the strut and coil from my integra i brought it over to where my sol sits (15 feet tops) and matched it up against the strut of the sol. It's about 1/2" shorter but everything lines up otherwise. So i thought meh what the hell. Called up my boss (owner of a performance shop) and asked him if they would work? He said.."I honestly don't know" so i went in and pulled off the old ones and they fit...AFTER i changed the "a-arm" i believe it's called. Just took the stock one from my Integra and it bolted right up. So now my car is sitting about 3-4" lower in the front and probably 2 inches lower in the rear...the rear end still needs to drop some more though since the front end is lower than the back end...and the car doesn't have a motor in it yet...anyways here are the pics of the progress today. Sorry the pictures are dark, when i finally got it done it was getting dark.

Front tire. I found out i could fit my allarm remote inside the gap w/ little movement...and it's maybe...1 1/2" tall? Compare this picture to the 6th picture above and lemme know what you think...i like it personally...

here's another shot, kinda hard to see since at this point it was almost 5pm

And for those of you who chimed in about the RSX conversion, thank you for posting and not flaming. I decided i am NOT going to go with the conversion, rather just a simple lip. Anyone have any suggestions on brand or style?

I kind of like the look of this one but i'm not sure yet....suggestions w/ pictures? thanks guys!

anyone ever notice that as soon as you get a little extra $$$$ it's always someone's b-day or christmas? wuts with that huh?!?!

Hey no worries about the car's condition. They all started somewhere. You'll have a lot of hard work/hopefully good times getting it finished. And yeah, money sucks. Hands down , haha.

a 4g63 isn't that a mitsu motor (built by hyundai (and yes, it really is built by hyundai. owner of a tiburon for the past 4 years)? and wouldn't i go w/ a 4g63t (turbo) i saw a picture of a rear engine sol (i think it was top fuel that made it...don't quote me on that) and i honestly don't like how the engine area looks so empty..plus that would also require another what...5-10k?
