fast & fun now its rough to run
1987 accord lxi 5speed 107113 miles
I started driving this car thirty days or so ago after being parked in need of a fuel pump. New pump install and this seamed to be the fix and the car ran great for two weeks or so. On the way home , I notice a shake or vibration and loss of power. Felt like it needed to back fire. I was almost home and I turned the car off. Started her up 2 hours later fine for a week. Then I'm driving home on the highway, losing power gradually. I am struggling to do 50mph in 4th gear and begging to climb slight grades, running rough , vibrating, revving at 3.5 to 4 grande just to do 40 mph in fourth. This car has a fresh clutch, fresh wires & plugs, oil and coolant. She was also running like Grande Prix roadracer just recently. I do have the chip light pgm f1 lit on my dash. My local mechanic contacts immediately said vaccuum- or water in the gas- or timing belt.... I'm a novice wrench with little or no great Honda knowledge. I do love this car already. My daughters first car that was rolled back to me.

You'll need to find out what the trouble code is that's triggering the PGM FI light. Whatever is tripping the code is what is causing your problems. Use the following link to help you pull the code. You'll want to scroll down to the section for 86-89 Accords, PGM FI...

yep, you'll have to stand on your head behind the drivers seat and open the little plastic door on the ECU cover so you can get the flash code. KOEO; look under the drivers seat from the rear floorboard.
I've seen lots of fuel filters get plugged up when fuel pumps fail, there is a black soot like material in the filter when you pull it off and shake it out.

Dump a bottle of heat in your tank.. If it was sitting it may just be condensation in the tank... Sounds like the same issue's Ive had with a previouse car, and it fixed it right up. Can't hurt anyways, and its only a buck
That fools filter should be mounted on the firewall. held on with a bracket strap-10mm bolt. But break the lines loose first, oh yeah that one banjo bolt is called a double 'D' and if you don't have the special socket you can use an open end wrench or crowsfoot.
