I know this type of question has probably been asked two thousand times but search doesn't work for me...

Okay, I have a 92 hatch (shell) and it's main purpose is for the track, it's not a DD. I figured D16 turbo would be best because it'll be lighter than a B swap and don't have the cash for a B turbo anyways. I want to push about 250 whp.

I will have about $3000 for the engine, turbo (ebay special probably), Hondata/tune. Is the D16Z6 my best option? I need an engine that doesn't need much internal work. How about D15b? Thanks.

that should be good too 300 .. vitaras have been able to hit the 400 mark.

 

a stock z6 can do 250 easily on stock motor reliably. all you need to do is have quality turbo parts and a good tune. no need to spend on rods and pistons if you are only looking for 250hp

 

that's 250whp not 250 to the crank. i highly doubt the rods can handle that nor the ringlands.

 

your rods can handle 250whp just get a good *** tune and be set

There was someone recently that made like 400whp on those rods. Tuning is what matters most.

 

i've seen over 250whp on those stock rods many times

 

Save the money and keep the motor stock and get a non-ebay special turbo.

My stock z6 block is making over 250whp

 

keep it bone stock ... yah u liked thaat vid huh... if u put vitaras and tuner toy rods .. the list above with a good turbo kit u can make 400 + no prob...
but for 250 id say get a 50trim t3 turbo keep the motor stock.. buy a drag mani off ebay.. some dsm 450s and a resistor box. ebay 100$
and a ebay intercooler .. get a nice charge pipe kit though.. u dont want pipes blowing off all the time .. GET A GOOD TUNE

 

jeff evans did 380 ish on a stock z6, the car ran 10's and is still alive.

made 420 or something on a boost spike.

yeah of course it's doable.. but to be safe why would you not be safe with $3000 to spend? A little tempermental are we.

Because a well tuned stock block is better than a poorly tuned built one. The rods aren't going to get weaker and ringlands go from detonation not too much hp. Boost the stock block and get it tuned...

 

My stock z6 hit over over 20psi on a t3/t04b when the WG actuator got crushed (accident, thought they were running...and was pissed). Motor is still fine, but I feel I got lucky - and it was up there for 2-3 seconds. The problem with 250whp on stock is that theres no room for error. You'll probably have a 2bar or larger MAP sensor, so you'd want the tuner make sure it gets tuned past a typical boost spike.

$3k would be streching it with hondata and a full kit. I'd almost suggest a kit like a greddy sohc, an fmic, and crome (for ems), then the rest on the above mentioned internals. I have to warn you, you'll need to have $4.5k on hand if you plan on a budget of $3k. **** does happen...

This man speaks the truth. I planned on a $2500 setup, but in the end I spent nearly 4k.

 

Yeah, I know. But I'll have $3-4000 right away. I'll probably run the turbo w/o the bov before I get hondata/tune. I live in Wisconsin, I wonder where I can get a good tune... damn Wisconsin.

 

250 at the wheels is very very attainable in stock internals with a t3t4. very reliable.

What part of Wisconsin? I'm in Waukesha, setup for CromePro for a good price (needs only chipped stock ecu), along with welding/etc, but I know of other places. I know a guy at Extreme Motorsports down in Racine that does lots of tuning that I trust 110% (personal NA drag car does low 11's). There's also the Whip Factory in Chicago, if you want to drive a bit farther. I believe they are Neptune tuners on top of it.

BTW even a leaking ebay BOV for $25 is better than no BOV - compressor surge is bad, regardless of what people say. The people who say it isn't are also people who'll get lung cancer after 40yrs of smoking, and be completely clueless as to why.
