Default How long before clutch master/slave cylinder breaks?

So about 2 days ago, i turn my car on and cannot put it into first gear at all. It was easy to shift with the car off, but very difficult to put in to gear when the car was on. So of course, the first thing I do is research it through here and I find out that my clutch master cylinder or clutch slave cylinder might be broken. I checked my fluids and the container for the clutch was empty! So i go buy some brake fluid over at honda and pour some in. Since then (two days ago), the car has been driving fine. The brake fluid seems like it hasnt been decreasing. I do know, however, that there is something wrong because there is oil and grease when I reach in the where the clutch connects.

My question is how long do I have before I have to change it? Whats the worst that can happen with me driving like this?

if you keep fluid in the reseviors you should be okay. but that's gonna get old fast. plus you don't know if it the clutch itself is getting soaked which can affect clamping needs. i reccomend fixing it asap.

My clutch master cylinder leaked down inside the driver side firewall onto the carpet for 4 years before I finally got around to replacing it. I replaced both the master and slave cylinders at the same time, parts cost about $150.

daaaaayum! 4 years?! in that case i probably wont change mine anytime soon as well! did you have to keep putting brake fluid so that you dont dry out?

on 94-01 integras there is a huge Technical service bullitin on alldata, and shopkey about leaking clutch master cylinders. Since then i looked and noticed that mine was leaking, and all my buddies that have integras are leaking too. Im sure you could drive with it like this for a while but why would you want brake fluid leaking inside the passenger compartment?

well its not even up to the point where its leaking into the passenger compartment. i only found the fluid when i stuck my hand all the way up to where the clutch connects and fiddled my fingers on whatever i can feel.

so you're saying this is a real common problem in integras?

I wouldn't wait that long. When I changed mine it was a MESS under my dashboard. A bunch of paint was flaking off from the floorboard and the clutch pedal arm. Also the carpet and floor mat were REALLY nasty, I had to use a steam carpet cleaner to get all the mess off. Definitely go ahead and swap it out as soon as you can afford it.

wow my clutch is doing the same thing and while driving the car is extremly hard to shift. and it will not go in first or second AT ALL. then the tranny seems to "lock out" occasionally, where it wont let the car go into gear at all. it seems as if the clutch isnt disengaging all the way.... is this the slave/mastery cylinder also?
cuz thats cheaper than a clutch by far.
