That motor looks pretty beat up...where did you get it from?

 

It doesn't look beat up, chances are If your valve cover wasn't peeling when you got it, it had been repainted. All of those old honda valve covers peel like that

it looks like it's got more than 100000Km on it...(just by lookin' at it..)

 

hehe, it's not beat trust me. it looks to have a metal head gasket on it too. lets see removed valve cover, t belt still in really good condition, belts for pulleys definately dry rotted and hard as brick so i highly doubt it was stolen... the valve cover was starting to chip when i got it and i took my die grinder w/ a wire wheel to see if i could clean up dohc vtec ect.... well it started to take off the paint so i'm gonna have it re done and cam gear holes made on the sides. btw it's also not beat.. little dirty yes but in those pics the header heat shield is removed that's why it looks like that, heat shield had minimum rust. here's a pic of the tranny.

btw how good is the s1 tranny????

 

nice short gearing... good for NA.

 

S1 is nice. I have one in mine, and the gearing is tight. If you go Boost/N2o, I would go with YS1/LSD though, traction might be a problem.

Damn, that's amazing, it doesn't look like the cam seal is spewed like they all are.

what ru talking about it's getting there, have my jdm wing and tails on. have door panels in basement (waiting for doors w/ no belts integrated in them, and power window motors ect)

Dont EF9's come stock with B16a's? How did you blow the first one?

 

From the looks of the parts he is adding he is building a "psuedo" EF9. He is basically taking an ED chassis and converting a lot of the parts over to EF9 spec.

 

it looks to have been sitting a while.... no worry i'm sure it will run fine.... it is dirty though.... i may powdercoat the whole thing block red, head black, red valve cover w/ lazer cut cam gear holes, skunk 2 type r manifold, skunk 2 gears.

 

well got my skunk2 manifold today... gonna start posting pics of the rebuild... got lots of goodies... and plan on ordering more . i was thinking about running some laughing gas on this one since my old nissan never got to run it... do any of you think one of those NOS intake manifold plates will work w/ one of there cheater kits??? i only want a little not a lot since internals will stay stock for now...

 

The Xsi came out in 1989 and ran to 1993. 89-91 came with b16a1, mid 91-93 came with b16a2. Mines a 1990, cable clutch, non LSD.
That engine looks like mine when I got it at 70000 km, the crappy paint was cracking and it was just a bit dirty.

 

Just because a valve cover is peeling does not a bad motor make.

 

Yep, thats what I meant. Runs sweet as, not a single problem in 50 000km, just needed a clean up.
