Default 86 4wd wagon, 4wd sticking???

My uncle has an 86 4wd wagon, stick. The cars got like 280,000 on it, not too bad a shape though. Hes havin a problem disingaging the 4wd. Is there a certain speed you have to be at to turn it off or could something be wrong with differntial? I know One time when we were going 45mph and pushed the 4wd button to shut it off it turned right off but at lower speeds or stopped it wouldnt turn off. If anyone knows about these that would rock! Thanks guys.

maybe the actuator is going bad? or it may be the contacts in the switch itself? I was always under the impression that the vehicle had to be stopped in order to engage/disengage the 4wd. Theres a guy on my board by the name of "D" who has been schooling me on the 86rt4wd, I could try to ask him if you want.
