heh back when my swap was finished the downpipe wasnt bolted to the cat very tightly, took a friend for a rip one night and the thing fell off! naturally i redlined a few gears... my car sounded just like that

I didn't hear vtec in any of them. Maybe it's just bad quality.

vtec does not make a sound why does everyone think it does....my d15 sounds like "it has vtec"...its just loud

 

the "sound" as they describe it is the distinctive switch when you switch to the High VTEC cam the the engine opens up and howls when it was not previously.

 

Most motors with and I/H/E make more sound when the cam switches over. There is an increase in air, so yes.... there is a sound that people hear when the vtec 'kicks is'. I can tell plain as day on my mom's prelude when it gets on the 'good' lobes. Part of it is the motor picking up quicker too, so the exhaust note changes abruptly.

I can hear what the original poster is talking about on this clip. About 1/2 way through first the car really changes sound. I don't know if the vtec is what we're hearing. You don't hear it in other gears because the motor is obviously coming in to the next gear in the vtec range.

Anyway, cool sound. If anyone is really bored and wants to compare a non vtec motor, here are some old wavs of my car back in the day before the turbo. They're on geocitites so they'll probably go down once per hour. The 1st one is an in car from burnout to finishline. The second is someone taping at the line. You can hear my car through the traps until the next car burns out. It was a non-resonated old style thermal exhaust. The third is a 3rd gear pull on the dyno.

DO you guys know what we did???

We unbolted the STOCK muffler near the gas tank and drove around with it off! That's why it was so RICEY!!! It sounded terrible! HAHAHA it was loud though!

The VTEC kicks in when you hear the buzzing kick in in first gear...

 

hahaah i did that too, scared the hell outa my neighbors but lost soo much back pressure, so i put it back on. good job!

 

you should hear my car when I pull the exhaust cut off switch OPEN headers
all the way damn I love it(B16)

 

my car screams when i hit vtec in my b16. rsr header and catback and my aem intake prolly help a little in the whole power ban, but when i hit 5000 rom it like vrooom...BAAAAAAAM my vtec can probably be heard from a mile away, no joke. Everyone always asks me how I get it to hit so loud, and honestly I have no clue. I would let you hear it but I dont have anything to record sound....

Id rater have it quite when im driving around town and only loud when running it
