Well, the cams are internal, so they won't see them on a visual inspection. Theres a visual pass.
For testable emissions, you can certainly get the exhaust gasses clean enough to pass, especially with a good cat. Here's the rub, can you do it with stock timing? They'll check that. You're in Cali, if you have a 00 or newer car, they'll plug the obd2 ecu into their computer, so no chipped ecus passing in 00 or newer cars and you probably won't be clean enough on stock tune. And then there's the whole NOx issue. I know the GSR didn't have an EGR, and if you don't have one, and if those cams create higher compustion temps (my guess is yes, since they'll breath better), you'll never get the NOx levels down enough to pass.

probably not if lift and duration are more than stock specs. not sure though because i don't have a b18b. if the difference from stock is minute than maybe. go get a pre-test.

do you guys think it would be okay to try the first time with the cams? Then if I do fail, just come back for a retest with the cams removed. Should i do it ?

Most definitely, give it a try, you have nothing to lose.

if you can get those cams in there and tune ur car a little closer to 13-14 afr, then probably, since you arent really changing much besides adding more air to your engine, depending on how big these cams are, you are going to be leaning out more. are you planning on tuning at all? and not to bust *****, but are these cams big? and if so, why do you want them on a stock motor?

If the cams are the only performance variable, as long as the catalytic and all the emissions controls are intact and functional, you can tune around the cams.

Well the results are YOU CAN PASS with 403 cams in an LS. I just had my car smogged yesterday and it passed everything. And this is without the cams being tuned. This is stock ecu. The only other thing on the car was a catback.
