Bad to redline all the way?

Its not great but
not something u should do everyday...
I redline pretty much every shift but an occasional bouncing off the rev limiter is ok.

yeah but doesn't the hondata reflash increase the cut off? if so, it should be ok to hit the rev limiter on a stock si?

the rev limiter is there so you don't have to sweat post like this.. it LIMITS you going past what the motor was designed to handle..

Yes, to 8600. The reflash (in a sense) reprograms the ECU to hit VTEC around 4500 and extends the redline to 8600. Same effect if you redline at 8600 with the reflash. Just don't make a habit of it like Type X said.

Im the same way. Only drive my car on the weekend currently (Im out of town for work during the week & car stays home), so I beat on it when I drive it on the weekend. That being said, Im still averaging about 25-26MPG.

i think i'ts okay, i've done it way more than 1x... the fuel cutoff is there to protect you from overrevving your engine I believe
if you're careless like me...at around 60-70mph, I've gone from 6th to 2nd gear :X Ouch. I pray for minimal damage.

It's no big deal.....that being said, I would not do it on a regular basis. You don't know how many times I bounced both my 8v and 16v GTI's off of the rev limited while Club racing up at Lime Rock. My first 16v motor lived a very tuff life from the day that I picked it up from the dealership (i.e., Lord knows how many track days I did in that thing, I also beat on it pretty hard on the street.....because all of my friends at the time were old school domestic V8 guys.......I'd do my best to keep pace on Saturday nights with a '71 SS454 Chevelle, a '71 Firebird with 455 and a '72 Torino Sport with a 351c). I did a motor swap when it had around 75k miles on it.......at which point it was still running pretty strong.

yeah, theyre the same. just being overly clear.
for those that always engine brake prior to slowing down, what kind of mileage are you getting? im beginning to wonder if there is something wrong with my fuel tank. i average 17mpg. i havent gotten above that ever since i purchased my car in september.

I only down shift when i have 2 like if i am coming up to an exit and i am in 6th i will go to 5th or if i slow down on a regular road in 4th i will go to 2cd no need for engine breaking i thought by putting it in neutral before a stop helps it slow down quicker.
Well it really isn't a good thing to redline all the way. I mean, once in a while when you get it to open up the throttle/valves so that you can have the car later running at optimum performance levels, but other than that, keep it real meng.
Huh this car was built to redline like mad i bring it to 8,000 all the time its 1 of the main selling points of the car enjoy your car people

Exactly. Enjoy it, but don't destroy it in the process.

^^ Hondata, raises it to 8600. I'm actually kinda surprised you don't have that...
