rdx motor swap? possible ?
taken from the civic type R article on edmunds.com, discussing a hypothetical possible USDM civic type R ...
"Displacing 2.3 liters and delivering 240 hp, the turbocharged four-cylinder introduced in the Acura RDX would turn the Si into a legitimate Type R. We've been told the engine will fit with nothing more than new motor mounts and a relocated intercooler. Add a little extra rubber up front to get the power down and Honda would have a Type R worthy of its badges. And with the RSX out of the picture there's room for Honda to add a few grand to the Civic's price without pushing into Acura territory. With that kind of power on tap, its odd styling would be the last thing on our minds."
that would be something .. i wonder if anyone is considering doing this swap

the first thing (at least for cali folks) is that the swap is not lega. Not legal because you can't put an SUV motor into a passenger vehicle and visa versa
so just with that right there, i've never bothered with any research any further than that
Now i've read the RDX motor is suppose to be a k-series motor, so it's possible Honda just made some kind of adapter plates for the AWD tranny and all you need to do is plug in a FWD k-series tranny..
the other thing to consider is hood clearence with the top mount intercoolerrrrr
good luck

i understand there are legal concerns
but a b20 swap isnt legal either ..
i just think the idea of the swap is very exciting ..
a factory turbocharged engine in a small (relatively) light weight chasis ...
it opens a lot of possibilities
this project would be too complicated and too cost prohibitive for a guy like me
but it would be interesting to see if it could be done
maybe honda will do this for us one day ..

read on some magazine where they actually had the heads of RDX tunning from japan come thru for an interview (this was 5~6 months ago). they highly doubted that it would fit. say you bust a nut n make it fit. they claim it has a list full of tech diffs to prove how it wont run. now (about a week ago) i hear companies are in the works. def something to look out.

There was this guy named Doc Charles that had a shop right around the corner from my old house. He has no moved on to bigger and better things. I even think he helped with the wide body K20 Fit, forgot what tuner co. it was for. Might have been skunk2. I wouldn't doubt he might be someone who would do it. If i was loaded that would be a fun swap to have. Lots of fabrication but when you are rich who cares?
it wont fit b/c the only tranny that will bolt up is the awd auto tranny and the accord v6 mt, problem is the block and the oiling system block the 1/2 shaft from the accord tranny. and the awd tranny stuff is HUGE
Even if it is possible, I don't see the point in it. An off the shelf turbo or supercharger kit > K23T swap in every possible way. You could even swap the head onto a K24a4/a3/a2 block if you wanted the extra displacement. I guess the only real reason to do it would be to say you did it.

I think it would be a nice advancment in power and the aftermarket has been all over it allready so there isnt to much R&D to wait for.</TD></TR></TABLE>
That would work, but you'd have to figure out how to run the ECU. I say wait for the 2008 JDM Civic Type-R (not the EDM). That vehicle should also run on the CAN system so your gauges and odometer should work fine. Plus, rumor has it that it's going to be putting out 250ps......screw the RDX.
Also, another rumor I read a few days ago.........................apparently there's a Civic running around Ohio with the RDX motor in it.........anybody wanna play "Spy photographer"?

Why would anyone want to do this when without the expense of this change you could throw on an aftermarket turbocharger to a Si to get more power?
Also in Japan they're going to soon be selling a Type-R Civic Sedan by next spring with 220hp stock with no turbocharger. So I think even if these rumors are true they aren't going to be cost justified to make it to production.
Will the RDX turbocharger ever be sold with a Civic in NA? Maybe. Will it be before the 2010 model year? I doubt it.
To be honest my mouth waters over the Japanese Type-R Civic Sedan making its way to the US moreso than any turbocharger. Because if you understand what an engineering feat it is to get 220hp out of a 2.0L FF NA sedan your mouth would be watering too.

Here's something that's REALLY going to make your mouth water:
The fine folks over at TOV mentioned a few years ago that for this particular CTR, Honda was shooting for 220ps. But they found that too easy. So they went to 250ps (naturally aspirated). ToV's pretty positive this time around the JDM CTR is going to be seeing 250ps to compete with the Mazdaspeed 3 and other high-powered FF compacts.
