Default faulty coolant temp sensor/cooling fan switch, anyone had one fail??? need some info.

i have a '92 accord that i suspect has a slow or slightly dirty coolant temp sensor foe the fans, right at the thermostat housing. but it's not throwing off any codes or anything. the only reason i thing that it's not working as it should is because the fans seem to go on just slightly later than they should. i guess it could be covered with residue that's affecting it's performance. wish i could find someone who had one fail or replaced. what are some of the symptoms to look for?? what else does it cause???

"fans seem to go on just slightly later than they should" HUH?

Exactly when do you think the cooling fans should cycle?
What is the Temp when the fans cycle?

So let me get this straight, you're saying that the fans don't seem to be turning on at the correct temp.. I've seen a few old cars do that.. And to save my customers money, I just bleed the cooling system and make sure the fans cycle. Then I just tell them that the car is old and sensors are just starting to wear out. And if they persist, I just quote all of the sensors since the system seems to work properly..

thanks for responding to those who did.
i guess what i'm saying is that in past years i didn't remember when the fans only only kicked on once or twice in a span of 15-20 minutes or run time, but no a days they seem to come on less frequently. just saying that maybe the sensors may need attention. also, the reason i'm wondering about the sensor/fan switch is because i started noticing that when at full operating temp, but not overheating, the engine runs about 500 rpm higher than when it's cold, so i thought that might have something to do with it.

PnX-R: have you come across this, where engine runs little richer when it reaches full operating temp, but still not overheating condition? also, any way to test or even clean the sensor/fan switch??
