I bought a crack tranny from a member on honda-tech. I was gonna just use the internal, but I want to see if I can use JB-WELD to weld up the tranny. It'll be much easier then swapping the internal. What do you guy think?

tig weld... its how you weld aluminum...

 

tig weld is a type of weld, there are alot of tpes of welds out there

why dont you try and then tell us if it worked? As long as the tranny isn't used to put a car in motion, i dont see how it could harm anything

i hate to say this but i have a gsr tranny in my car that has jd weld on some cracks. i didnt know it till i got under the car to change my shifter bushings that i saw 3 fairly long cracks with jb weld on them. i bought the car with the swap so i had no idea and the owner convienently *forgot* to tell me. surprisingly it's held up despite a few runs down the strip. i used to drive the car everyday, but now it's just sitting in the driveway due to other reasons.

 

Okay, any recommendation on tig weld in Orange County?

 

It mainly depends on where it is cracked.

If it's cracked on the bell housing you could probably get away with some JB Weld but why would you even need to JB Weld the bell housing. As for the case, it really depends on where the case is cracked. Do you have pix of the tranny?

I had a buddy that JB Welded the case on a YS1 tranny for his LS swap in an EG sedan and he didn't have any problems with it.

 

Might as well hot glue it together

Try any exhaust shop. They usually have a lot of different welders laying around those places!

Have you try tig welding it?

 

If I were to weld the case I would only do it if it were high up on the case otherwise it might be prone to major leakage...

Okay, I took a look at that **** and it's ******* FUKKED! No way in hell any kind of welding is gona bring that bitch back. So, i'll have to just swap internal this weekend.

That **** is cracked DEEP. To where on of the bolt is falling apart. What the hell can cause such a crack?

 

It's probably better in the long run to just swap the tranny casings than weld it. If it's on the bottom it will crack again and more money will be needed to get it welded.
