Default Difference between a 4th gen. 1996 tranny & 5th gen. 1997-2001 tranny??

I need a 5th gen. tranny although found one locally out of a 4th gen. 1996 H23 prelude. Is the gearing any different or is it comprable??
Thank's.

the gear ratios are way different...in a bad way. either get a 5th gen base, 4th gen vtec, or if you want a lsd then go with the jdm prelude m2b4 or accord euro-r transmissoin (forgot the code for that one). check out the FAQs for more info.
