Default how to tell if shocks are bad.

is there any sure fire way to tell if the shocks are bad? Do i have to take them off? or just signs as in fluid or what not around the shock itself?

The car just doesn't ride like it did before. Rather than buying new stock shocks I may as well drop it.

Please let me know of anyways to diagnose.

thanks
Mike

push down on one side of the car and see how many times it bounces. I think if it's like over 2-3 times then it's bad.

However, even if it doesn't bounce too much from a hand jounce test, that doesn't mean that they are necessarily good, but it will tell you if they are obviously blown when it bounces excessively.

And you can only really test a stock suspension this way. Stiffer springs can keep you from being able to compress the suspension enough by hand to do much of anything.

is there anyway to figure out the stock spring rates? Its a sedan so the spring rates would be higher due to the weight I would assume.

From what I have heard, and this is only what I have heard and not something to take as completely reliable, but the springs from the coupe and sedan should be the same. The sedan is only something like 80 lbs heavier after all.

If you have a really bouncy ride, when it wasn't bouncy before. Plus all of the fluid leaks down the strut body.

the ride is noticeably more bouncy than when I first bought it.

I will get in there and look for fluid.

Thanks for the help.

greatly appreciate it.

if you see the shocks oozing out fluid then they are bad., and blown. time to upgrade.
