Default Would these be good pistons for d.d.?

I was looking into rebuilding my bottom end. Would those nippon pistons and rings be good for a daily driver. I've been told to get oem type r pistons and rings because they have some type of coating that prevents premature wear, it that true? thanks

they have friction reducing moly coatins on the skirts. they're just fine for a daily driver, unless you use ctr's. then things get interesting.

Nah see he meant the nippons.

I've heard good and bad things about their quality. I'd get RS Machines ITR or B16 spec pistons instead

My friend has Nippon Racing pistons in his b16 turbo setup. 9.7:1 CR and they worked fine and are still in mint condition after 7000km of daily abuse.

I wouldn't hesitate getting them especially for daily driving

what are your weekend pistons gonna be?

I'm using them and I'm at 3900 miles so far. The NPR rings are supposedly some of the better rings on the market.

i run my car hard on the weekend, but i wanted to know if these piston rings cause premature wear for a daily driver, like how stainless steel valves wear out valve guides prematurely.

with the rings you need to make sure when geting the walls rehoned that you get the right grit and cross hatch for the rings because diffrent ring materials require diffrent roughness for proper seal. but for me i went with IB weisco pistons because there coated like OEM to reduce wear and have offset witch will reduce piston slap noise and used a platue or dimond hone for teh walls. which is like having the walls allready broken in and smoothed out. because with a stone hone it leaves little ridges inteh walls and these ridges are what the rings wear into to creat their seal with teh walls. and when breaking in stone honed walls make sure not baby the car to much or drive it to hard either, this can cause improper ring seal. o yea and dont forget to check piston to wall clearances and ring end gap these could also lead to premature sealing problems

hope this helps

Seeing how the stems on Honda OEM valves are stainless, the tip where the rocker hits is not" you might want to call them and tell them it wear's out the guide prematurely. Check a stock B-series valve with a magnet.
