Default roadracing a 5thgen

I was just curious to how many people if any are actually tracking thier preludes regularly on a roadcourse? Im heading to TWS this weekend for some track time, but i wanted to know if aynone has a 5th gen that is actually competitive on the roadcourse. thanks

Myself and DR are in the Texas area, both in 5Gens. David has been racing for 3 or 4 years. I don't have my license yet, but I'm hoping to get it this year. We've both been down to TWS plenty of times, but we're not going this weekend.

Walter is another 5Gen owner that road races. I'm not sure where he's from, but I believe he got his license last year and is now racing in Honda Challenge.

Fully gutted with cages. They're legal for NASA and SCCA wheel-to-wheel racing. I could post a few pictures of mine.

I might be moving the car up a class for next year, so that list of mods might go up. Have fun at the track!! Your going to be addicted, if you are not already.

yeah lets see some pics for sure. Sounds great but I'll stick to autox and the local track here cause I my prelude is a DD and I like it that way.

Do you guys keep the ATTS if you have the SH or is an LSD better for the track?

Here are a few. There are too many mods to list, but the basics are SMSP header, AEM CAI, open exhaust with a Coast Fab muffler, and Euro R crank pulley. Koni 2812 shocks, stock front anti-roll bar, custom rear 3 piece bar, adjustable end links, and spherical bearing "bushings."

Wow that's nice clean basic setup and gutted for sure

Is the road noise loud in there? Probably sounds like my suspension in the winter.

Any idea to what she weighs now? Do you use the ATTS or is yours a base?

Base model. The other Prelude that David runs is an SH with a base engine and tranny.

My car is loud as hell. Too loud. I'm adding another muffler onto it this winter.

Weight is just under 2700 lbs with me in it (and I'm a fatass) and a little under 1/2 tank of gas.

204 WHP when it was a fresh engine.

I've stopped by your car a few times at Summit Point. Every time no one was around.

I saw you run at a NASA event this year. I saw what happened to the frontend of the car, but I didn't see what happened.

He's asking about road noise....I would like to know too....do you ever drive it on the street, or do you have any idea what the road/tires sound like over that exhaust note?

Car looks great

I've tracked my 100% stock + cai 5th Gen prelude at Shannonville, ONT. It was an absolute blast, it wasn't competitive though.

I must admit, I love the gutted cars above

ive been looking to take mine to the track too, just need to get a few more basic parts for safety and some peformance stuff. If decently modded do the 5th gens stay competitive with others on track? i know that depends greatly on the driver, but the potential for the car is there right?

The exhaust is WAY louder than any road noise, except maybe rocks being kicked up by the tires hitting the underside of the chassis. That's what I'm trying to say.

Drive it on the street? Are you kidding? It's far from street legal. Not to mention that I wouldn't want to hit my noggin on any of those roll cage tubes in an accident!!

There are also no side windows, AC, blower, etc. The dash is gutted.

I had figured as much....just wondering though

Did you put plexiglass in place of the windows or just leave it open?

That weight was as it sits now, stock brakes, stock hood & trunk, lightweight battery, all glass (except door windows), and a CF sunroof plate.

Thanks. Now if I could just go get my damn license.

The lip wasn't as rough as it is in the pic, I think I smacked a track out cone at MSR. I don't remember ever seeing it, but a friend behind me said it was gone when he went by!

What car were you in? If you were at NPM, you can attest to how stupid loud it is. I can't wait to get another muffer on it.

Do you know anyone that has done plexi, lexan, or some other non-OEM window set in a 5Gen?

I doubt you have the same exhaust. Although an completely open header is probably a bit louder.
